I’m flying out tonight to visit and celebrate a dear friend’s 60th birthday in Chicago.

It’s hot and might be sunny so I whipped up this adorable bucket hat to fit over my dreadlocks.
Of course I went through my Tula Pink stash.
It’s so fun.
And reversible.

Today was my last day of volunteering for the quilt show at the fair grounds. I wanted to take more images to share. And thought,
You all should get your Quilting loving butts to the fair to see all the wonderful work your peers have on display.
And while your at it, go check out the other building where the Weavers, Knitters,
Embroidery and Fiber Arts folks have amazing pieces.
Go go go.

And I forgot,
I made a bucket hat with the theme veggie.
It earned a 1st place ribbon and theme ribbon.

Walked into the LQS today and was assaulted with the most revolting stench of an air freshener.

Are people totally unaware how synthetic air freshener smell?

Seriously, open a window or two. Fresh summer air is much better than toxic synthetic air fresheners.

The stench is lingering in my clothes, hair and in my throat.

On another note:
My Judy Niemeyer top is coming along.

Sometimes piecing something together is not always fun.
Or you lost interest in the project never to be looked at again.
Sometimes you want the things that make up the quilt but not drama of making the top.
Sometimes you have beautiful fabric that you cannot imagine cutting up into teeny tiny pieces. And you know what you don’t have cut up anything and sew it back together to get the comfort of a quilt.
You can take that favorite fabric, or duvet cover, or your favorite cotton sheets and make your quilt sandwich and quilt it.
I am quite fortunate to have a longarm the allows me to just that… make simple quilts, quilted curtains, quilt privacy curtains, bird cage covers and a bunch of other things not related to piecing fabric together.
This fabric was a duvet cover I purchased from ikea earlier this year.
I loved the colors and had to make a quilt with it. I deconstructed the duvet cover attached one piece as my backing to the frame, made the quilt sandwich and stitched a popular e2e (edge to edge).
I used Quilter’s Dream Deluxe batting for extra warmth and weight.
Pillow cases will be next.

Fresh off the frame. The wonderful quilt is a gift for a daughter who is a Geological Engineer.
What is brilliant about the top is all things related to rocks, gems and minerals.
I’m sure it took the quilter to find just the right fabrics for this incredible project.
Another observation is there is a textile for everyone. You just have to take the time search for it. Happy quilting.
