🌿 With all these fresh veggies and herbs in the store… it’s giving summer cocktails. ☀️🍹

One of Erica’s summertime favs is a fresh basil smash made with fresh local basil. You can jazz it up by adding some strawberry simple syrup from Full Moon, or a dash of a strawberry lemon shaker from Jams Jellies and Things!

Tis the season to get creative with all our local goodness!

Behind the scenes, we're always looking for ways to reduce waste and better care for our community. That's why we're excited to add cardboard recycling to our list of sustainable initiatives! With the number of boxes that come through our doors each week, it was important to us to find a better solution.

In addition to cardboard recycling, we also recycle egg cartons! Bring in your clean, dozen (no 18 or 24 packs please) egg cartons, and we'll return them to our local egg farmers to be used again.

🚲 We're also proud to be part of the FAST Planning Bikeways initiative, encouraging safe cycling in Fairbanks. If you're out and about and need to do a minor repair, swing by to use a bike repair kit!

Sustainability doesn't have to be one big thing—it's small choices we make every day that add up over time. We're proud to try and promote a more sustainable version of Fairbanks.

The assignment: Introduce the new vendors.
The plot twist: Erica's voice memo became the audio. 😂

Meet Over the Cart hot sauce, Mayor's Salsa (this salsa is DELICIOUS), Denali Daisy Designs, Natasha Zahn's artwork, Chantelle Marie's artwork, and AK Wild Bags!

🍪 Calling all cottage food vendors! 🍞

We're excited to welcome Gluten Free Frontier for their very first Roaming Root pop-up on Saturday, July 25! 🎉 We hope you can come out, meet the maker, sample delicious gluten-free treats, and support another amazing Alaska small business.

And if you're a local cottage food vendor looking to connect with the Fairbanks community, we'd love to host more pop-ups like this! Reach out via email at [email protected] - we're always looking for ways to showcase local food makers and help connect them with our community.

We can't wait to see you on July 25! 💛

I am super excited to announce two things:

The first: Sarah Nichols, our social media manager and owner/super brains behind Lifted Marketing, and I (Erica), are launching something we've wanted to offer for a while now- our inaugural business marketing and strategy course, Launch Local! If you're a local entrepreneur who wants to learn how to run and grow your business more effectively, and wants to learn to build your brand and market your business more strategically, join us on August 29th! (https://www.liftedmarketingak.com/classes/p/launch-local)

Early bird pricing is in effect until August 1st, so sign up now if you want a screaming deal. This 5-hour workshop will be tailored to business owners who are in the pre- or early- launch stages. We're super excited to help you navigate the first few years of business ownership and learn from the lessons we've already worked through, both in our businesses and in a combined couple of decades of leadership and marketing experience!

We hope you can join us!

The second thing: I HAVE to share these pickles Andrew made. I think pickles feel out of reach for those of us who are...less skilled?...in the kitchen, but these are quick, easy, and require zero canning skills.

When I say I can't stop eating these, I mean I literally cradle the jar in my lap and fork-to-mouth it until they're gone. We've eaten about three cucumbers this way in the last couple of weeks. If you're looking for an easy, delicious way to use up that good summer produce while we have it, give this recipe a gander! (https://perchancetocook.com/quick-asian-pickled-cucumbers/ -recipe-container-31053)

He subbed birch syrup for maple syrup, and toasted the sesame seed. I think he also used a dash of rice vinegar (and red wine vinegar in a later iteration) because we ran out of apple cider vinegar....but they're still delicious.

Also, the trick to keeping these crispy is to salt them for about 15-20 min before beginning to make them. Rinse them well before mixing with other ingredients and they'll stay nice and crisp!

Enjoy! Summer feels like it's going faster than usual this year, so stop in and grab that summer produce while we have it. We'll have to dig the snow shovels back out before we know it.
