Since 1985, a kaleidoscope created by Vivienne McConnell has welcomed generations of children at an elementary school tucked deep in the boreal forest of Fairbanks, Alaska. Thousands of students have gazed into its shifting colors and patterns, captivated by its beauty. It was announced in the winter of 2025 that this beloved school would be closing its doors. I wanted to find a way to preserve th

e magic of that kaleidoscope and the memories tied to it—and that’s how Northern Prism was born. As a teacher, some of my happiest memories came from watching my students choose the kaleidoscope and their reactions to the color change as they played with it. I hope the joy, calm, and creativity it sparked live on in every pair of earrings I create.

Since holiday bazaars are over, and there is some slow time before my next show in April, I wanted to share some of the custom work I do.

Photo Custom Mugs -$25- includes set up of your photos and added text plus proof. (3-5 day turn around) Forgot a gift? Rush orders available for additional fee…

Cartoon Custom Mugs -$30- includes set up and as many back and forth messages until you are happy or we are sick of each other.

Alternatively, I sell the mugs with LOVE logo for $18 dollars…..

Buy one custom mug, and get a second of that exact design (no changes can be made) for an additional $15

Want three? I mean, why not, then when your partner finds them around the house they’ll just think it’s the same mug. Add $10.

Just think. Valentines Day is coming up and for $50 you can have three mugs to give away.

Payment must be made when order is placed. I am currently not shipping. If you’ve ever been to a Post Office in Fairbanks, you’ll understand why. I don’t need that stress in my life.

As 2025 quickly comes to a close, I just want to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has supported my little hobby business—whether you shared a post, made a purchase, or stopped by to say hi. Every bit of support truly means more than you know.
