Suitcase to Heaven is an inspirational book for those struggling That’s the scenery driving back home.

SNOW ROADS, SNOW BUILDINGS, SNOW TREES is my world covered with snow. There’s no echo since the snow housed all the sounds inside each snow flake. I hear nothing-stillness…
I feel silence…
I see “nothing” in front of me, but a world of white. But when I look at the sky something magical takes place. The night is covered with colors. It’s the green sky, dancing with blues and shades of yellows and

reds from the dome of the Northern Lights in my home at the Alaskan winter nights. The sight of multiple colors brings my memories back, far away in time…
Bright colors I used to see everywhere at the streets of the tropical Brazilian life. I felt small- so small, as my mom held my tiny ten year old hand. One the other hand, my child size surf board I carried to Ipanema beach. Mom would take me to the sand- hot burning sand on my bare foot toes I would feel…
The waves, my tiny ears would hear breaking on the shore. The air- thick and warm-so hard to breathe…
Hot my skin would feel, but soon, I would surf the waves and cooler I would become. The waters of the beach would make me tumble around and about once I would fall down from my little surf board. I would gasp for air, for my breath under water- too long would be held. Sun down, my mom would once again hold my smallish hand. Now with flip-flops we would walk on the streets of Rio de Janeiro towards home. On our walk I would spot a “banca de jornal.” Books, magazines, and newspapers of all sorts the “banca” would sell. Mom, I thought, loved to read…I would save my money for three, or perhaps four or five months. Then, on another walk, I would buy her a book, or two, or sometimes four. She would smile, so happy, and inside, I would smile twice as much, for happy I would feel that her heart was -so warm. But now, I’m here, not in the Tropical, but the Arctic, so far from my ten year old days, where I walked barefooted on the sandy beach of the colorful Ipanema beach. Life took me around, a turn or two, and even more than I could ever know…
My mind, here again it is, on the white, so very white snow. A package my mom opened today. In it, “Suitcase to Heaven”- a new book! Filled with emotions mom cried of joy: a tear here, then another one or two. This time, it was not a book from a stranger, or a “banca de jornal,” but a book I, Emilia, wrote. Orchestrated life is, by the God who makes the plans unfold. Oh, how creative and marvelous are His plans! Nothing wasted, nothing coincidental, nothing for not, but all for beauty, all for all! Placing my hands in His Hands, and through life, beauty He created. Would you place your hands in His Hands, and let Him color your life with the beauty of the Northern Lights?

Let us do something different this Christmas. Instead of focusing on the stress of the holidays; buying so many presents and gifts; going to stores; trying to wrap many presents; and eating so much; let us go outside and be in nature. Let us gather our families; take a walk in the snow; and thank God for everything that He is; and for the birth of Jesus; who lived an exemplary life and showed us a template for how we should live.

Yesterday I was asked this question; what do you think a good man is? A good man can be many things. To some people; a good man is someone with many degrees. To others; a good man is someone with a lot of money; or someone who pays for a woman’s things.

But a good man; to me; is a man who follows Jesus; who has a heart that desires to walk in His footsteps. Not necessarily what society calls him to do; but what Jesus calls him to do. The same goes for women; we should be following Jesus’ footsteps in all that we do.

The true reason for Christmas is to focus on Jesus; not on ourselves; and not on exchanging presents with one another. Let us give our gift to God; by following Him in everything we do.

Luke 2:10-11 – “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.’”
– A perfect reminder that Christmas is about Jesus’ birth and the joy He brings.

This is one of the most beautiful palaces in Munich, Germany that I have ever visited, the Nymphenburg Palace. Inside, there is the famous Gallery of Beauties created by King Ludwig I, where women were portrayed solely for their outward appearance. Noblewomen, middle-class girls, and even the daughter of a shoemaker were chosen to be painted, not because of their character, but because of how they looked. The gallery is visually stunning, and it’s hard not to admire its beauty, yet it reflects a deeper truth about that era: women were judged by their outward appearance rather than by the God-given worth within them.

In those days, women lived under strict expectations;rigid rules of conduct, limited freedom, and constant supervision. Their privacy was small, their independence almost nonexistent. Servant women endured long hours, hard labor, low pay, and almost no protection. Many were vulnerable to mistreatment from higher-ranking men, with little power to defend themselves. They had no political voice, no legal independence, and very limited access to education. Society often viewed them as ornaments, helpers, or tools for political advantage, instead of seeing them as individuals created by God with purpose and dignity.

The palace stands as a reminder of how deeply inequality was woven into society. And sadly, this same mindset still persists in many places today, where women are undervalued, unseen, or used instead of honored.

But the Bible tells us something very different. Scripture teaches that men and women are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27), and that beauty is found not in outward appearance, but in the hidden person of the heart (1 Peter 3:3–4). God calls us to treat every person with love, respect, and dignity.

Women were created by God with compassion, strength, wisdom, and a nurturing spirit; gifts meant to bless this world. We are called “helpers” not in weakness, but in the same sense that God Himself is called our Helper (Psalm 54:4). That is a title of partnership and divine purpose.

Women are not objects to be used; they are reflections of God’s heart, bearers of wisdom, and carriers of His love. When society recognizes this truth, it becomes more just, more compassionate, and more aligned with God’s design.
