When it comes to 1950s entertainment, most people will think of "I Love Lucy" or "Leave it to Beaver" or movies like "Oklahoma!", or John Wayne westerns. But there was also film noir, and there was certainly a darker and more erotic side when it came to paperback fiction. Whole publishing lines arose to chronical the infidelities, seductions, and deceits of life on society's edge. Now, often, the stories inside were much less salacious than the covers would indicate. But the covers sold the books, and America's top cover artists were often employed on books which invariably used pseudonyms to cloak the real authors. As we plow through this massive collection, here are a few of the books processed so far, featuring a mass-market flashback to the 1950s unknown to many of today's generation...

If you ever wondered what 40,000 vintage collector paperbacks looks like (and who hasn't)... here's the kind of space they occupy. This is a recently-acquired estate collection, said to be one of the best in the nation, which we will be putting out over the coming months (and years). Nearly complete runs of most publishers 1940s to 1960s. (Remember... the fabled Mile High comic collection was "only" 18,000 items). This is the largest and most expensive collection (of any kind of collectible) Bookery has ever purchased.

And yet, for all this, remember that paperbacks are a SECONDARY product line for us. If we are willing to put these kind of funds into paperbacks, imagine what we're willing to do for your golden-age and silver-age comics when you decide to sell!

NOTICE: yes we will be OPEN as usual on Friday, though it may not look like it. Our block will be closed off all day as they set-up for the Bluegrass Festival. You'll have to park on one of the side streets, which means it won't be convenient to bring us collections that day. Saturday will be back to normal.
