Huge shout out to and .kristintaylor for traveling to NYC to honor their mom Carrie who succumbed to Ovarian Cancer in 2018. The ladies got chosen for front row and were all smiles during live class for Mother’s Day. It was the most amazing way to honor Carrie’s memory. I did the ride from home as did .gillotte and . We are all really proud of Kris and Chelle!!!

Rather than use my palm router, I’ve switched over to the Foredom router. It’s a much better tool for pickup routing and battery box routing. I remove most of the wood with forstner bits on the drill press, then I use the Amana bit from in the Foredome. I get much greater control with the foot switch using gradual and easy acceleration and deceleration. And if you do routing but haven’t bought routing jig, you need to get this tool. It’s great for clearing fret slots but it’s also fantastic for general routing. The lights are really a genius idea. And the Amana drill bit is relatively expensive but totally worth the money because it lasts longer and it has a collar guide that rests on the side of the routed wall at a certain depth so that as you go lower the bit cuts evenly with the initial rout. Makes the job much easier.

Customer came in not knowing exactly what the back story was on this neck that he had bought from a good friend and bandmate of his. They are both older guys like me and are great players. I told the customer that the neck seemed either fake or seriously altered. The shape and logo seemed right but the fretboard radius was 12” and the nut slot depth was much more shallow than a Fender. Today he came to pick it up and had gotten the full story from his buddy. Turns out that the neck is a true Fender and had been refretted by a local looth who was just getting started in those days (about 1980). The looth had re-radiused the fretboard and had taken off a lot of wood, leaving a shallow nut slot as a result. That looth has gone on to a very successful career so it was pretty cool seeing his early work. In the guitar case was the original receipt for that refret. Pretty good price for a refret back then!
