A customer asked if I could make her a larger custom floral frame, and my first thought was… but I love making tiny things! 😂

I honestly never considered going bigger—but now that I’ve seen this enchanted little world come to life, it might be one of my favorite things I’ve ever made. The depth! The texture! The tiny details hiding between the flowers! 🌸🌿

At this point, I’m mostly annoyed that I can’t shrink myself down to fairy size, move in, and spend my mornings drinking tea on the moss 😂🧚‍♀️

Soooo… do we think larger floral frames need to become a thing?

I crammed my entire carry-on with sea urchin shells, heart racing the whole time, because I was terrified my delicate Alfonso jellyfish would get crushed in transit 😂

From the chaos of travel all the way to Seattle, I kept imagining the worst—broken pieces, ruined specimens, total heartbreak.

But when I finally unboxed everything… they were all there, intact. (Or almost all there 😅)

July was a little pause from markets—a chance to travel, spend time with family (including my two new twin nieces! 🥹💕), and get a head start on holiday production. I’ve been making lots of new floral and moss art behind the scenes, and I can’t wait to share it with you!

Now it’s officially time to get back on the road (and plane! ✈️), starting with 2nd Sundays Williamsburg and then PlantCon Seattle! I’m currently surrounded by plants and busy making alllll the kokedama for Seattle. 🌿

I’ve totally jumped aboard the PlantCon train and feel like I’ve joined a traveling plant circus 😂 After Seattle, I’ll be heading to Texas in October for PlantCon Houston and Dallas!

Traveling to new cities over the past few months, meeting so many new faces, and sharing my work with fellow plant lovers has been such a fun adventure. I can’t wait to see where this lil plant circus takes me next! 🎪🌱

Most people see the finished booth.

They don’t see the weeks of inventory prep, the freight shipments, U-Haul rentals, employee schedules, late nights, or the moments where you’re not entirely sure it’s all going to come together.

Chicago was more than just another show for me. It was a chance to see if Plants & What Knot could successfully make the leap from local events to a major show 700 miles from home. It was a huge investment, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have butterflies in my stomach.

But that’s part of the magic of running a small business. You make a plan, take a leap, and hope all the pieces come together.

700 miles from home, and somehow it turned into this. 💚

A few years ago, I was designing software.

Today, I’m designing with plants.

Recently, I had the opportunity to share my story with VoyageMIA and reflect on the journey behind Plants & What Knot.

What started as a creative outlet during a difficult season of life slowly grew into a botanical art studio, countless market weekends, and more moss-covered creations than I can count.

This journey has taken me from late nights experimenting with new ideas to building displays, traveling to flower shows, and creating botanical art for plant lovers across the country. Every step has been made possible by the incredible community that has supported me along the way.

Earlier this year, while hiking through the Hawaiian rainforest, I spotted wild anthuriums growing high up in the tree canopy. Seeing them in their natural habitat reminded me why I fell in love with mounted plants in the first place.

Mounted plants are actually how I grow most of my own personal plants at home. There’s something special about recreating the way these plants naturally grow—almost like bringing a little piece of the rainforest indoors. 🌿

I’ve been so busy making kokedama this year that mounted plants have taken a bit of a back seat, but lately I’ve been feeling inspired to revisit them. (And somewhere along the way I’ve become completely obsessed with Hoyas.)

I won’t be doing many markets until fall, and going forward I’ll likely be bringing fewer mounted plant varieties to events. But you can find these beauties on my website. ✨
