A few years ago, I was designing software.

Today, I’m designing with plants.

Recently, I had the opportunity to share my story with VoyageMIA and reflect on the journey behind Plants & What Knot.

What started as a creative outlet during a difficult season of life slowly grew into a botanical art studio, countless market weekends, and more moss-covered creations than I can count.

This journey has taken me from late nights experimenting with new ideas to building displays, traveling to flower shows, and creating botanical art for plant lovers across the country. Every step has been made possible by the incredible community that has supported me along the way.

Thank you to VoyageMIA for the feature, and thank you to everyone who has purchased a piece, stopped by a booth, shared a post, or followed along on this adventure. 💚

Earlier this year, while hiking through the Hawaiian rainforest, I spotted wild anthuriums growing high up in the tree canopy. Seeing them in their natural habitat reminded me why I fell in love with mounted plants in the first place.

Mounted plants are actually how I grow most of my own personal plants at home. There’s something special about recreating the way these plants naturally grow—almost like bringing a little piece of the rainforest indoors. 🌿

I’ve been so busy making kokedama this year that mounted plants have taken a bit of a back seat, but lately I’ve been feeling inspired to revisit them. (And somewhere along the way I’ve become completely obsessed with Hoyas.)

I won’t be doing many markets until fall, and going forward I’ll likely be bringing fewer mounted plant varieties to events. But you can find these beauties on my website. ✨

Chicago was supposed to be a “maybe” and somehow turned into “let’s hand-make an irresponsible amount of kokedama and fully commit” 💀🌿

Happy Mother’s Day to the heart behind so much of my life 💚

Plants & What Knot quite literally would not exist without my mom. She’s helped me build this little dream from the ground up — making kokedama late at night, loading market vans at ungodly hours, calming me down during stress spirals, and somehow always believing in me even when I don’t.

She’s also the reason I fell in love with nature. Some of my favorite memories are the two of us wandering through rainforests, beaches, gardens, and anywhere green and beautiful together.

Thank you for being the kindest, most patient, adventurous human I know. I love you endlessly 🌿

Just dropped new kokedama on the site 🌿✨Last call for Mother’s Day gifts 🪴🎁

Still in a daze from this weekend 🥹🌸

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Flower & Garden Festival! Saturday was wild (in the best way), and I know some of you tried to stop by but couldn’t even get into the booth 🫠

The fact that so many of you came back Sunday… in the rain… just to see me 🥹💚 I don’t even have words

Getting to catch up with so many familiar faces, hearing how your plant babies are doing, and watching your collections grow and thrive (just like you 🫶)… it’s my favorite part of all of this

I’ve had a few new team members start recently, and they’re always shook by how many repeat customers I have 😅 And I’m like… yeah, my people are the best

You guys are truly my planty heroes. Love you all so much 💚🌿

Not even kidding… I leave mine outside and do absolutely nothing to them — rain handles it, sun makes them prettier 💁‍♀️

If you want a plant that thrives on neglect… this is it

Which one are you picking? 👀

Spring market season has arrived and I’m completely terrified and unprepared 😅😂

With my sister having twins soon — mommy is MIA — so it’s just me in the studio these days making kokedama (plz send help 🆘)

I’ve basically been in hiding the last couple of months, quietly working on new pieces and pretending I’m not spiraling 🙃

BUT I do have some really beautiful blooming kokedama right now that I’m completely in love with and I can’t wait for you to see them ✨🌸

Come find me this April, say hi, and tell me how your plant babies are doing 💚
I’ve missed you guys 🥹
