Here’s a Black Titan introduction for the uninitiated and a refresher for the veterans. You are coming to the show on Saturday September 19th aren’t ya?

Black Titan, otherwise known as “Whiskey” The Musical, was formed in 2014 by Clayton Bates, Allin Kilpatrick and Ian Taylor. From the ashes of The Sunshine Factory, BT represented Ian and Clay’s move to a heavier sound. Allin, having just moved back from Austin and a stint with Ancient Wisdom, provided the push to pull them out of their proverbial post TSF funk. The trio held open auditions for bass, ultimately deciding on the ferocity and musicality of seasoned pro, Jimmy Lee. An EP, blood, sweat, and copious amounts of volume followed. The bands only full length, “The Bags In The River” was recorded at Ian’s family home in 2016. Under red lighting and clutching a baseball bat to slam on the ground before tracking, the group channeled defeat, heartache, fear, rage and brotherhood straight to tape.

Ultimately the booze demon split the group, and for ages The Titan lay dormant.

Conjuring the darkness again, Allin and Ian have resurrected Black Titan with Clay’s dark blessing. Joining them in their ultimate quest for everything heavy are Mike Lane of Daikaiju and CCUSA, and Miranda Pixley of Mobile’s metal punk monsters, Future Hate. The new additions bring familiar aggression with a new flavor.

Calling all fuzz guitar and loud, pummeling music freaks and folks - Saturday Sept 19 - Black Titan and Rufus McBlack, live at District Hall. Bring $15 and a positive outlook, this is gonna be a banger. Assembly #1 is gonna be one to remember!

WHO IS RUFUS McBLACK? We asked a few questions; here’s what we found:

How did the band form?
Johnny and Clay were in a hardcore band called Manuscript Division so they had musical ties even before Johnny moved to California. When he came back Clay told him he had met a bass player that plays with Grayson Capps. They got in touch and we got our first gig for an impromptu jam at Big Beach Brewing. The chemistry was there from the beginning and we started to write in the thick bamboo forest of Magnolia Springs. This was around the very beginning of the world opening back up after Covid. Definitely a Covid band.

Mars Volta, My Morning Jacket, Grayson Capps, Infectious Grooves, Radiohead, Tony Levin, RHCP, Zao, 80’s films, Surfing, Norma Jean


Highlights?
1. Appearing on the Sonic Dip radio show hosted by Dr. Music. You played 2 songs from our first EP. We were texting each other with excitement. I personally wrote down the whole radio show of artist you played. Big highlight from us. You gave us so much love.
2. Having 3 songs featured in a professional documentary about a surfer from California. We got paid really well and all of us felt kindred to the fact our songs made it on a surf film.
3. Opening up for Daijkaiju.
4. Playing the 30th anniversary for Dr. Music.
5. Wynterfest

What can we expect from the September 19 show?
Thrashing-out in the mist of the fog machine, we’ll will play every song from our new EP, Remember That One Time. We plan to riff some of the old hits and make a beautiful psychedelic stew. Crowd participation is necessary.
