I was the bride who couldn’t find the invitation I wanted.
This month, my husband and I are celebrating 13 years of marriage. It also marks nearly 13 years of Betty Lu Paperie, which feels like such a meaningful full circle moment. I’ve been reflecting on those early days as a bride—sitting with ideas, searching for something that felt thoughtful, romantic, and personal, and not quite finding it.
I wanted something that reflected the kind of experience I hoped to create for my guests. But everything I came across felt either too generic or too complicated to navigate on my own.
My design style has changed so much over the last 13 years… But, the thing is, so many couples begin where I did—wanting something beautiful, but unsure how to bring it all together.
Here’s what I didn’t realize at the time:
