Friday Field Focus: a closer look into what’s currently growing on the farm.

This week… ZINNIAS!

A fan favorite for sure, no matter your vibe there is truly a zinnia for you! Here at Toad Hill Blooms, we grow a full range, making sure we have the variety to match everyone’s interests!

This week, these zinnias made it into flower jars picked at Mommy and Me, paintings with Greater Rochester Plein Air , bouquets for Herman's Farm Market | Webster NY , Flower Share bouquets, and last nights Date Night event on the farm. But don’t worry, I grow plenty, so there will be more for Fairport Farmers Market tomorrow! I’ll be there 8-12!

The farm had a group of very talented visitors this weekend! On Monday, the Greater Rochester Plein Air group gathered in the flowers to create masterpieces.

I was in absolute awe as I walked the rows being nosey. There were a variety of mediums: pastels, paints, and watercolors. But what I loved most is seeing what captured their attention. What angle or view stopped them enough to sit and create beauty of their own. Some chose to focus on individual flowers, some were struck by the trees, others focused solely on the barns, and a few even captured the whole farm.

I went to bed that night with a whole new appreciation for this magical space. This time of year it’s easy to get lost in the tasks, but this helped me stop and appreciate the beauty I’m surrounded by daily. Even the pile of cinderblocks I use to hold down tarps that’s been on my to do list to move for weeks made it into the artwork.

I consider myself lucky to have had so much talent out here on the farm. Thank you Greater Rochester Plein Air for sharing your talents! And a special thank you to Victoria Brzustowicz for helping to make it happen!

Happy Wednesday Walks! From the feverfew (baby daisies) and eucalyptus!

Favorite part of having people on the farm is seeing what brings them joy.

For some it’s the flowers. Others it’s the barns. Some enjoy all the Monarch butterflies. But all enjoy the peace this special brings them.

At second glance it’s a bucket of flower petals.

To me this is a mom growing a business. Yesterday’s first day of school was also a Flower Share pick up day, both the Full Season members and the first week of Dahlia Share. I juggled the first day traditions, early bus, and school drop offs, before heading back to the farm to finish making bouquets. With my youngest by my side. He used his imagination and made flower petal soup. He was particular about colors he needed and stirring them gently. It’s his most prized possession right now.

This is how moms make it work. Fostering imaginations, while making their dreams come true too.
