Customer build dump incoming, and I’m here for it. 🔥

One of our SOT customers turned one of our receiver blanks into a machine gun built around the iconic AKS-74U. Short, nasty, all business. I love that gun. Six pictures, zero complaints—customer said do whatever, so here we are.

Honestly, seeing customer builds like this is the best part of what we do. Keep them coming. 🇷🇺🛠️

Got a ton of receiver blanks back from heat treat and they’re looking beautiful. Now comes the fun part—sorting. 😅

Really happy to be running the early 1980s Russian AK-74 blanks again. It’s been a long time since we’ve done those. The tricky part these days is we’re doing way more variations in smaller quantities, so to keep heat treat cost-effective we have to mix everything together and sort it all out after. Years ago it was big batches of one thing. Now? A little more chaos, but it works.

Oh well, that’s my Monday. Back to sorting. 🔩🇷🇺

Quick dive into the three different Ethiopian 7.62-style models that have been imported. One variant has a longer receiver dimple, another has a shorter one. We originally made our receiver blanks with the shorter dimple, exactly like our standard North Korean model.

Well, wouldn’t you know it—my personal kit has the longer dimple. And being the OCD maniac I am, I can’t bring myself to build it until I make a new receiver blank specifically for those long-dimpled guns. So that’s getting underway tomorrow.

In the meantime, for most of you who’ve been waiting, we’ve also got the straight-up standard marking done. And we finished the Ethiopian / North Korean Model 88—super rare, super interesting. The details came out great with all the information we were able to gather. Those blanks will be available around the same timeframe as the others.

Bummer for me, though—I still have to wait for my own kit. 😅🇪🇹

Installing center supports on our RPK-style receiver blanks, but this time we finally fixed a decade-old headache. 🛠️

The backstop on this fixture was just a short piece of angle iron—flimsy, unreliable. We never took the time to improve it, and honestly, that was a mistake. It caused endless extra work and constant stress wondering if things were running right. So we finally spent about an hour swapping it for a properly ground plate. First run? Flawless. Every part came out dead flat, even the ones we didn’t place perfectly. That means a better receiver for you.

Message to all the builders out there: spend the time on your tooling. Improve your processes. Even if it’s just organizing your shop, building a block to hold your specific tools, or throwing up a pegboard—it pays dividends immediately. You stop hunting for tools, you stop fighting your fixtures, and everything just flows cleaner. This upgrade already paid for itself in peace of mind alone. Invest in your setup, you won’t regret it. 🔩🇷🇺

Oops—realized we forgot to punch the rectangular pistol grip pocket in our Russian AK-74 receiver blanks before forming. Nothing a little old-school tooling can’t fix. Pulled out the vintage setup and hit ‘em after the U-channel was already shaped. Back on track. 🔧🇷🇺

Finally got my hands on an Ethiopian partial parts kit from Royal Tiger Imports. Super rare. Missing the stock, bolt, and carrier—but still cool as hell. Just an unboxing, no big project yet.

M77 lower rivet hole needed an internal chamfer. We came up with a setup to make it happen. The original 77 trunnions have a tiny chamfer that barely holds the rivet – the rivet just gets squished down to nothing. Ours is actually better. More material, more bite, more secure. In the next video, I’ll show you how to use our tool to install the lower rivet the right way.

After almost a year of thinking about it, the M77 is finally coming together. Receiver blank is ready. Front trunnion is marked. Parts kit from Centerfire Systems is sitting on the bench. Next week we start building – and we’re gonna design some tooling along the way to make it easier. Follow along if you’re building one too.

Receiver blanks are shipping now. Trunnions ship Monday/Tuesday. Lot of us are gonna be going through this at the same time. Feels good to finally be here.

Had trouble spreading M77 receivers to install center supports. Old snap ring pliers weren’t cutting it. Found a pair of fiber optic connector pliers with the right geometry—but they were too long. So we chopped ‘em. Now they’re perfect. Lots of leverage, works great for both installing and removing center support rivets.
