This past week, I had the honor of being one of 24 volunteer Floral Designers chosen to be a part of the American Grown Flower Design Team here in our nation’s capital. Every designer paid their own way, and gave up many hours away from their families and own floral business or flower farm to bring their talents to this incredible event.
Politics aside: for me, this long standing Bipartisan event is about flowers and coming together to build relationships and community. It’s about raising funds for an important cause, and recognizing the power of our nation as one-not divided. The theme of Georgia’s Front Porch and Southern Elegance, combined with The Masters, was a beautiful vision brought to life by this design team.
The mutual love of flowers can often create an opportunity for lifelong friendships. This week I met designers from across the country; Alaska, Florida, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Texas, Tennessee, and so many other areas. We came together to design with Certified American Grown Flowers (I will post on the significance and importance of this next time) for the 113th annual First Lady’s Luncheon hosted by the Congressional Club here in
Washington DC. It was an honorable, joyful, and tiresome time-but a wonderful and inspiring experience that I will never forget! Again, I need to emphasize the impact of bipartisan collaboration and American pride combined with the beauty of flowers, friendship and hard work!
I will have to post again soon, as my brain and body are beyond tired.
