Farmville Downtown Partnership is the 501c3 not-for-profit public-private partner with the Town of Farmville. Founded for the purpose of spearheading the revitalization efforts for the historic commercial district of Farmville. With volunteered time, talents, and energies of interested persons and groups in Farmville, VA, the group employs the Main Street Four Point Approach to downtown revitaliz
ation in the context of a historic downtown neighborhood. Incorporated in 1798, Farmville grew on the banks of the Appomattox River in the heart of Virginia. The town's economy was fueled by agriculture - primarily, tobacco, manufacturing, and transportation. Farmville is home to two institutions of higher learning: Hampden-Sydney College, founded November11, 1775, and Longwood College - formerly the state teacher's college, or Normal School - founded in 1839. Today, Farmville is a thriving community with business, industry, academia, and civic life all working together to perpetuate the rich legacy of its founders and early leaders. In addition to working with the Town of Farmville, the Main Street organization is working in close partnership with Prince Edward County, both Longwood University and Hampden-Sydney College, retail merchants, service providers, civic and community groups, and interested citizens to strengthen and support historic Farmville's downtown business district.
