I hope that first photo caught your eye.

Here are the basic steps I follow to make all of my wooden pens. All three of these started as Spectraply blanks, which is a type of very high quality plywood that uses alternating colors of dye for each layer. I trimmed them all to length on my bandsaw, glued brass tubes into the centers, flushed the ends of the wood to the tubes with a belt sander, turned them down to my shape on my lathe, sanded sanded sanded, applied a 10 coat CA finish, wet sanded up to 12,000 grit, and used a press to mount all of the hardware.

I was able to sneak out to the workshop tonight and try out a new wood on the lathe, sycamore. This wood has an amazing finish right off the lathe and had a grain pattern unlike anything else I have seen.

This beautiful slim-line rollerball pen was handmade from a piece of locally harvested walnut. This beautify wood has an outstanding rich color and striking curly grain texture. A slight bead at the end of the pen makes holding and writing with this pen a pleasure.

I finished the pen with a durable, high gloss finish that feels amazing and is sure to last a long time. Nothing is quite as comfortable as writing with a wooden pen.

This beautiful slim-line rollerball pen was handmade from a piece of exotic Cocobolo wood. This rare wood has an outstanding rich color and striking grain texture. This particular piece features dramatic golden yellow bands and swirls which contrast strongly with the darker brown and reds usually associated with this wood.

The wood has a satin finish which has an amazing feeling in the hand. Nothing is quite as comfortable as writing with a wooden pen.
