Things We Found in Books, #3

Found tucked inside a used book: a red envelope, one dollar, and this note:

“Blessings for good health, good fortune & good times.”

Honestly, we’ll take it.

Used books are the best because sometimes you find an old receipt or a weird bookmark, and sometimes you find a tiny blessing from a stranger.

Feels like a good sign for Canary Books. ✨✨ 😍

Thank you so much to everyone who came out for First Friday. We had an absolute blast welcoming people into Canary Books for a little sneak peek, even though we’re not quite ready to be fully open yet.

We’ll be officially live on **June 15**, with a grand opening party announcement coming soon.

And if you have books you’d like to trade in, send us a DM to make an appointment. We’d love to take a look.

Thank you for helping us bring this little bookstore to life. 💛📚

First Friday First Look at Canary Books

This Friday from 5-8, we’ll have Canary open during 's First Friday.

We’re not doing a full grand opening yet. We’re still pricing, arranging, rearranging and questioning our life choices.

But the space is real, the books are here, and you can come poke around.

We’ll also be accepting used books for in-store credit, so feel free to bring some by if you’ve got books ready for a new life.

Canary Books is located upstairs at Wood Iron Eatery. Come up, say hi, check out the space, and please admire Jax’s extremely professional front porch energy.

Full opening coming soon.

Things We Found in Books, #2

Someone hollowed out a copy of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" and made a lil hidey hole.

Was it for cash? A note? Snacks? A very small secret?

No idea. Fully support it.

This is why used books are rad. Sometimes you get a story, sometimes you get evidence that another person was quietly being weird in a way you respect.

Canary Books, now accepting books with secrets.

Last book trade-in before we launch!

Thursday, May 28th
5-6:30

Bring your used books. We’ll look through what you’ve got, take what fits the shop, and politely pass on the rest!

Good condition books, interesting books, beautiful books, weird little finds: yes please.

Mold, water damage, ancient textbooks: probably no.

This has been the required internet reminder! See you tomorrow!

Used book trade-in hours are starting 📚

We’re building the opening collection for Canary Books, so we’re going to try our first used book trade-in window:

This Thursday, May 7th
5-6:30 PM
Front porch at Wood Iron

Bring us your good-condition used books and we’ll take a look for possible Canary Books store credit.

A few notes while we test the system:

• Please bring no more than 25 books at a time.
• Please plan to stay with your books while we review them.
• We may not accept everything. We’re starting small, so we have to be selective.
• You are responsible for taking back any books we don’t accept.
• Please don’t leave books at Wood Iron outside of trade-in hours.

Accepted books receive store credit only. In general, credit will be around 25%-30% of our planned used-book selling price.

Store credit can be used toward up to 50% of a future Canary Books purchase. So if you have $10 in credit and buy $10 worth of books, you can use $5 in credit and save the rest for next time.

We’re especially looking for fiction, mystery/thriller, sci-fi/fantasy, kids books, middle grade/YA, cookbooks, gardening, art/design, nature/outdoors, WV/Appalachia/regional books, memoir, essays, poetry, classics, and interesting nonfiction.

We’re not taking textbooks, encyclopedias, Reader’s Digest condensed books, moldy/smoky/damaged books, heavily highlighted books, outdated computer/medical/diet/travel books, magazines, or old reference books.

Thanks for helping us build the shelves!
