We have taken over 30 calls for over-the-air TV channels that went out between Tuesday and today. The extreme heat and a mixed up atmosphere are most likely the cause. Read below:

A temperature inversion causes digital TV signals to bend or refract over the horizon, traveling hundreds of miles beyond their normal range. This atmospheric anomaly (tropospheric ducting) can result in signal loss for your local channels, or cause distant stations to interfere with your reception. How Temperature Inversions Affect TV Signals Distant Channel Interference: Signals from far-away broadcast towers can travel to your area, overlapping and canceling out your local channels on the same frequency. Signal Loss (The "Digital Cliff"): Because the signals are redirected past your antenna, the signal strength drops. Digital TV requires a stable connection, causing your picture to abruptly break up or disappear entirely.

What to Do be Patient: This is a temporary weather phenomenon. Once the atmosphere returns to a normal temperature profile, your reception will go back to normal. Do Not Rescan Channels: The absolute worst thing you can do during an inversion is to rescan your TV. Your TV will lock onto the distant signals, and you will lose your local channels once the weather changes.
