They built puzzle stools out of the barn on their farm in Grover, Missouri. The barn was located in a “Hollow” which is a low spot in a field, hence the name Hollow Woodworks. Meanwhile, Jim Beachler held a full-time job at a large manufacturing firm and pursued his passion for woodworking as a hobby on nights and weekends. Jim built toy wooden puzzles at home and sold them at Arts and Craft Fairs on the weekends. In 2003, Jim met Dan and Becky at the Tilles Park Art Festival in St. Louis when their booths were side-by-side. Over the course of the weekend, Jim learned that Dan and Becky wanted to retire, and the conversation eventually led to the opportunity for Jim to purchase Hollow Woodworks. Jim went “all in” as they say. He left his job and used his retirement savings to purchase the business. Jim moved the shop to Ferguson, Missouri where the Hollow Woodworks shop remains today. Today, our product line has expanded beyond the signature name puzzle stools but the quality and attention to detail for all of our products remain a benchmark in the industry.
