Stuck in Petaluma but heading home…..

UPDATE: The outrageous campus containing tons and tons of vacated buildings was known, in its later years as the Sonoma Development Center. It opened in the late 1800’s and has quite a history. We still haven’t resolved mental health, but it sounds like things were brutal back then as we experimented with treatments or sometimes punishments. It appears to cover 750 acres that were gifted to California State Parks but they’ve been unable to do anything with it thus far.

The mental hospital/campus was opened in 1891 and was shut down in 2018, although some reports state it was shuttered in 1989.

The “campus” contains 65-75 buildings that have just been deteriorating. It’s reminiscent of Halloween-themed movies in its current state.
