Before landing in NYC, we stopped in to visit the team and see how everything was coming together. The first part of the process was choosing which Casa Lily silhouettes would incorporate the fabrics from Bibhu’s collection, working between Fanfare, Sugar Coral, Garnet Rose and Strawberry Cream. Using fabrics designed for gowns on footwear brings a completely different kind of challenge, but they were absolutely beautiful, and finding a way to translate those colors onto the shoes before adding the butterfly and moth embellishments was such an important part of the vision.
We intentionally kept some of the footwear in its original neutral tones as well, allowing the collection to have moments of balance while the fabric-covered pairs became an extension of the clothing. Being able to tie the footwear back to Bibhu’s collection through the same fabrics, colors and eventually the embellishments made the collaboration feel that much more connected.
So much of this process happened behind the scenes, by hand, with a lot of experimenting and figuring things out as we went. Seeing an idea that started with fabric swatches and a few Casa Lily silhouettes turn into something created specifically for the runway has been incredibly rewarding.
