#3 - best thing to do with an invasive tree is to cut it down and make art with it ☺️🫶.

On that note- I found something about Bradford pear that I like ☺️. Unlike its blossoms its wood smells magical and turns that way too!

This one should crack and do weird stuff as it dries so I’m excited to see how it turns all the way out ☺️🫶.

Like ~ comment~ share all the things to boost ✌️☺️🫶.

Four first time woodturners walked out of Factory Two's lathe cave today with bowls of their own. The stacked wood blanks were similar, but the bowls are never the same. The grain alone sees to that.

Cy let his inner Mad Hatter loose with an hourglass bowl. Find out what you can make by signing up for Learning Lathe at:

This spalted maple was a delight- and the tallest piece I’ve made yet.

I realized I haven’t really played much with the orientation of the grain on a solid piece of wood- so I decided it was time to do an end grain bowl.

I also finally got myself a small carbide set, and really wanted to play with the swan neck tool given that I’ve received mixed reviews on them- I have to say I was BLOWN AWAY it was absolutely a delight.

So why not do a wavy hive inspired end grain bowl (? Vessel ?) 😅.

Sanding sucked- especially since this guy was so p***y- but the chatoyancy, and variations in the grain, and spalting, and little bit of bark I left intact 🤌.

I don’t know- somewhere along the way I think I started to develop my own style? Like- my pieces are busy and barky- a blend of modern and rustic? Or two worlds colliding? Perfection and imperfection.

I don’t know- I wish I could say there was a plan or higher level of planning and intent but I usually start with “I’m thinking I could do this or this or this….” And end with “… whelp this is where I finished 😂.”

Either way- it’s fun. I think maybe my next stretching of my winds will be exploring hollow forms and curves and flow more- these wavy pieces have actually been a delight and I’m sure I could do this again but MORE. 😂

Oh… I know exactly what piece is next 🤩.
