One of the surest signs that fall 🍂 has arrived is the return of our winter visitors, including the beautiful White-throated Sparrow! 😍

Our friends at Wild Birds Unlimited of Williamsburg recently had a rather special encounter with this little traveler! ❤️

They discovered him hunkered down on the sidewalk beneath their storefront overhang, possibly exhausted 😮‍💨 after a long night of migration. Concerned that he might have struck a window, they approached to check on him.

Much to their surprise, 😮 he fluttered right onto Kevin’s sleeve, where he perched for about 30 seconds! Talk about being in the right place at the right time! 💕

White-throated Sparrows spend their breeding season primarily in Canada and the northern United States before heading south to spend the winter ❄️ in places like Virginia.

You’ll often spot 🧐 these charming little birds scratching beneath feeders for fallen seeds or foraging among leaf litter. Keep an ear out for their beautiful, clear whistled song! 🎶

🍃 A little reminder for our feathered travelers: Migration can be an exhausting and sometimes dangerous journey, especially when birds encounter windows that reflect trees 🌳 and sky.

Making windows more visible 👀 to birds with properly spaced, exterior window decals or patterns can help prevent collisions and keep our migrating visitors safer. If you find a bird that may have struck a window, a licensed wildlife rehabilitator ❤️‍🩹 can help guide you on the safest next steps.

Welcome back, little friends! 🙌 We’re so happy to have you spending the winter with us! ⛄️

A special thanks to Kevin and our friends 🐦 at WBU Williamsburg for sharing this sweet encounter! 🤗
