Portraits are a way to remember. I take a lot of time to get them right. I don’t want it to be a caricature of them. I just want to capture their personality and the love people feel for them! It helps when I know them. Even just a little! I have rarely taken a portrait of someone I didn’t know but when I do, I ask for a little bit about them and several favorite photos for reference. Then I get to put my knowledge of who they are in my drawing. It’s fun, it’s terrifying, and it’s worth every second to see the final product and the face of those who love them.

When I was teaching I loved giving portraits to the families for Christmas! So when I started nannying, I had to complete the set. ❤️

My husband encouraged me to write a list of things that make me come alive, and I was realizing something. For someone who always said I loved the beach, it was actually the beauty of the water that I loved. I’ve spent more time loving the mountains through art and travel, than I ever chased the beach. 🙂 I’m surprised this piece hasn’t sold, but it was a really fun to create it and someday it’ll have a home!

It’s been a little while, so I thought I’d reintroduce myself. I’m Mary — the artist behind this page.

I believe art does more than fill a wall. It tells stories, carries meaning, and brings a sense of peace into the spaces we live in every day.

Each piece I create is part of that process — merging art and stories to bring life to a space. My hope is that the pieces you bring into your home don’t just decorate it, but speak to you, calm you, and become part of your story too.

This was an original of mine back when my husband and I were first married. He requested it and I was a little nervous as my first personal commission. It literally married our love of music, his love of piano, and my love of art…while it also took me a year to prove to myself I could finish it and I wouldn’t mess it up by continuing! It has gone from a black frame to a white frame to match his office decor and we have loved the change!

Prints are always available of this one! It brought me a lot of peace during the diagnoses and decline of my dad when we found out he had late stages of melanoma. I knew that God would take care of us no matter what. My parents framed and hung it in their home before he died in 2022. The 20x20 inch unframed prints are available for $150 and can be shipped directly to your home! It’s our 2nd most popular print, and I’m pleased the original also found a home. ❤️
