My first bookshop hoodie arrived! I’m curious if there would be any interest in the community for shirts or hoodies with the New Moons Bookshop logo on them. If it’s something you would like to buy, please comment below! Maybe I could set up a preorder form soon ❤️.

(My little shop’s budget is still very limited, so I don’t want to order a bunch of these if there’s not any interest.)

Nayru may be squishy and toothless, but she’s a shockingly skilled predator. The minnows are not actually there for her to eat (her primary food is earthworms), but our little freshwater sea dragon of course has other plans.

I took this photo just before leaving the bookshop last night, thinking, “Gee, those younger minnows don’t seem to know how close to danger they are.
. .Less than two minutes later, I witnessed a lightning-fast CHOMP. Not sure how long I can afford to keep buying more expensive snac—I mean roommates for this murder squish!

I hope Nayru will be out and about for you to see her, upon your next visit!

Friends and neighbors! There are so many fun events coming up!

Here’s what you need to add to your calendar:

1. The MEA Weekend Book Crawl is coming up in mid-October (Oct. 16th-18th) You can tour ten fabulous indie bookshops in this neck of the woods! Note: New Moons Bookshop is closed on Sundays, so be sure to stop by on Friday or Saturday, for that event!

2. We’ll also be starting off November with another free book exchange on Saturday the 7th!

3. On Wednesday November 18th I’ll be welcoming local author A.W. Powers to the bookshop for a creative writing workshop. (I’ll be setting up a sign online for that in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out 😊.)

Today I want to spotlight the newest local author/illustrator on the shelves, Ellie Maureen from the Rogers area!

Ellie has written—and created the cover art for—three books for young readers. The sorry centers on the adventures of a girl who comes from a community living deep in a cave system without knowledge of the mysterious outside world.

Ellie is also the creator of a snail-mail fiction story club! Each monthly letter contains a fascinating mini story, accompanied by beautiful illustrations made by Ellie herself! I think is is such a fun idea! A few of her starter letter packages are now available for sale in the bookshop, for anyone who wants to try it out!

Any fellow artists in the neighborhood want to create a hand-drawn I Spy illustration?

This copy of I Spy Spooky Night is a misprint! That happens now and then, in the book printing industry. But I hate to recycle a book like this due to a few misprinted pages! Of course I can’t sell it either.

SO! If you want to pick it up for free and create your very own special edition I Spy book, come on by to pick it up!
