🇺🇸 September 11, 2001, We Will Never Forget
25 years later, there are still days when you can close your eyes and remember exactly where you were when you watched the world change.
We watched in disbelief as the events of September 11th unfolded before our eyes. We watched the towers fall. We watched people desperately searching for loved ones. We watched ordinary people become heroes, and we watched firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel and countless others run toward the danger while everyone else was trying to get away.
Nearly 3,000 innocent people never made it home that day.
Among them were 343 FDNY firefighters, 23 NYPD officers and 37 Port Authority Police officers—men and women who went to work that morning expecting to come home to their families.
And then there were the thousands upon thousands of families whose lives were changed forever. Husbands who never came home to their wives. Wives who never came home to their husbands. Parents who never came home to their children. Children who grew up without a parent. Families who received the phone call no family should ever have to receive.
And we cannot forget the EMS personnel, dispatchers, rescue workers, construction workers, volunteers, search-and-rescue dogs, and so many others who spent days, weeks and months at Ground Zero helping in the rescue and recovery efforts.
September 11th wasn't just a day in history. It was a day that changed all of us.
For a moment, our differences disappeared. We were simply Americans. We stood together. We prayed together. We cried together. We looked at our firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel and military members a little differently—with an even deeper understanding of the sacrifices they make for us.
As someone whose family has a deep love and respect for the fire service, today especially hits my heart. We can never repay the men and women who ran into those buildings, knowing the danger, because there were people who needed them.
Today, we remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost.
We remember the heroes who gave everything.
We remember the families who were left behind.
We remember the first responders who answered the call.
And we remember how our entire country stood together.

We still honor.
We still pray.
And we will NEVER forget. 🇺🇸
