The Fabric Cobbler

The Fabric Cobbler This is a fiber arts and crafts store, not a quilt shop. Until we all are free, no one is free. Free Congo, Palestine, and Sudan!! Welcome to everyone!

The owner is tattooed, unapologetically progressive, a practicing Celtic witch, a retired combat veteran, and openly queer. Come and see me at 324 E. Ruehl Street in Forsyth Illinois! We are just down the road from Menards on north US 51!

If you own a business and do not have clients who become lifelong friends and family, you aren’t doing it right. Sometimes those folks make you laugh so hard you nearly fall off the bed laughing and then your dogs need to do a welfare check on mom. Picture of what produced this laugh at the end.

At 43 years old as of Tuesday, I do not give a singular flying f**k what anyone thinks about me. If you think purple hair, tattoos, and caring about Mother Earth and humanity is an issue, if you think me setting boundaries and not wanting unsafe people in my space, that says nothing about me and everything about you.

If you come into my shop, ask a question, and I answer it genuinely, and then you proceed to tell me to stop talking, I am going to tell you to not be rude. Just because you don't agree with why designers rarely choose to print puzzle piece fabric is irrelevant. When you continue to berate me in my own shop, with multiple other clients watching, I'm going to remind you to stop being rude to me. When you storm out of my shop because I didn't allow a grown woman older than me to be rude to me in my own store when I was helping you, I'm not going to be sad. I have the right to set boundaries in my store. When you rant on the internet about how my generation is doomed because we just have too many feelings and can't take it, I'm going to laugh.

I've served my country in combat. Did you? I have a college degree, and taught high school for four years before opening my shop. I sew, quilt, garden, paint, play the piano, read books, and much more. I've even published. Can you say a fraction of that? I serve my community day in and day out. I help others who need it without a second thought. Can you say that? I've raised three kids who will be grown in just a short period of time and they are kind, thoughtful, empathetic humans who would not dare to treat anyone the way you treated me.

My generation is good. We know how to emote, want to break cycles, understand what it means to apologize for bad behavior instead of storming off, and want to leave this world a better place instead of a worse one. I've lived so much life in 43 years. So much trauma - more than my fair share. But instead of being a sh*tty human, I choose to use that seemingly unending trauma to make the world around me a better place.

I finished leveling out the dirt in record time yesterday, migraine and all. Women: stop underestimating yourself. Don’t listen to incompetent men who are incapable of managing their testosterone rages. We are queens. Also, the butterfly really did keep coming back. I love the little signs the universe offers when we are willing to look for them.

I spent yesterday leveling two dump truck deliveries of dirt! Unlike the CEO of Taylor Farms, I don’t intend on spreading explosive diarrhea. Nope, this fiber arts shop owner is going to grow food, and help anyone I can with fresh food, and think about this shovel burying late stage capitalism while I’m at it. Oh and don’t forget, if you want to sew garden flags to display outside your garden, grab Odicoat to waterproof them from my shop! It’s the best stuff!!
