I opened in October 2011 after moving over 12,000 books from my house and garage on West Mulberry St. to a location in my own neighborhood (Cedarwood Plaza with King Soopers) at Taft Hill Rd. After two years there we lost out lease to a national pizza franchise. Seven months in storage and then have re-opened at Cimarron Plaza at Drake and Shields near Pulchinella Pizza. The ambiance in the new
store is lovely...everyone comments on it...and customers are always impressed with the selection of books. Monty-cat has returned as the bookstore cat and is always ready to meet new friends and solicit more pets. The Eclectic Reader specializes in non-fiction, modern fiction and literature for the independent reader and strives to obtain books that have substance and are scholarly. We have a smaller collection of entertainment reading than used bookstores typically carry. Many events are planned for the future. Besides book signings and poetry readings there will be workshops and lectures on a variety of stimulating topics. Our stimulating "Conversation Cafe" continues, with over 30 meetings held so far. This will be for those among you who are tired of shallow conversation and would like to make some real connections with other people in an open-minded moderated forum. My Background: A lifelong avid and eclectic reader and library assistant, I have been in the book business since 1983, first as a retail shop ("Toad Hall Books"), then a flea market booth, then a seller on Abebooks.com, and finally selling books out of my house and garage since 1995. I know the history of bookselling in Fort Collins going back to 1983. I have worked for two other bookstores in Fort Collins. Ever since I closed my first store in 1989 I have wanted to try again. Against all advice I decided not to wait any longer to open another retail store. (Cancer is a great motivator to change your life and not postpone things.) This store has been a dream fulfilled.
