Locals Only: Costuming, Upcycle/ReCycle Bespoke Outfits, Closet Clean-out, Stage & Sound, Problem Solver - Thing Maker I have known nothing but vintage, pre-owned or handmade clothing. My Mother's unique vintage style and costume designer / seamstress skills turned me on at a very young age. I went on to study fashion history at college and love theater costuming and historical period dramas. I never say no to a special vintage garment that needs a little TLC - if it can be salvaged, rescued, cleaned, repaired or upcycled with a quick stitch, a set of new old buttons or darning a hole - then it comes home with me so it can find a new life and a new home. My shop curation is focused on mid-century and includes wearable 1930s to 1980s fashion, accessories and collectibles, gender & size inclusive -sustainable style without waste. I spent years rescuing food resources as a non-profit 'without waste' community source for blemished ugly produce and unwanted goods. We saved millions of pounds of fresh edible vegetables from the land fill and due to the overwhelming amount of cloth donations we received, also offered a free community clothes closet. With that knowledge and recognizing the sheer volume of global fashion waste, reselling pre-owned clothing was a perfect fit for me. I went full-time online fashion reseller. No more dabbling. I graduated from collector to curator. Eventhough I have strong Vegan sentiments, rather than perpetuate animal-use and mistreatment, environmental pollution and land-fill waste, I choose to actively seek out leather goods, denim, cotton - silk - wool, animal fibers and fur, because it is a pre-existing sustainable resource. There is nothing like the structure and longevity of 1970's double-knit polyester or a well-made cowhide leather boot!

Small hat. Big personality.

Meet the doll hat.

In the late 1930s, diminutive hats reminiscent of styles worn in the 1870s came back into fashion. Perched at an angle above the brow and frequently heaped with flowers, bows, feathers or veiling, the newly christened “doll hats” packed an extraordinary amount of millinery into very little real estate.

This wonderfully exuberant example, dating to about 1940, was designed by Sally Milgrim. Its brilliant red straw base is almost overwhelmed—in the best possible way—by velvet flowers, a great black bow and a froth of black veiling.

It bears the Salymil label, Milgrim's secondary line, introduced in 1933 to offer fashionable clothing and accessories at more accessible prices during the difficult economic years of the Depression.

Frivolous? Critics at the time apparently thought so. We prefer ⭐️small but mighty.⭐️

🎩 Tomorrow we're topping things off with the VFG's latest Parade reel, devoted to hats. In the meantime, explore more millinery in our Hat Resource, or take a trip through centuries of headwear in “History of Hats for Women” on the VFG blog.

Stripe this way.

Todd Oldham could never be accused of being afraid of color—and in this Fall/Winter 1995–96 ensemble, stripes become much more than a pattern.

Bands of color run straight across the silk jacket, swing into concentric circles at the waist, change direction along the lapels, and finally meet in sharp chevrons on the skirt. Oldham choreographs them. They line up when he wants them to, collide when he doesn't, curve into a target at the waist and snap into chevrons on the skirt.

Oldham has recalled loving stripes and enjoying seeing just how far he could push them.

🎶🤩 Historic Music & Fashion 👀🦸‍♂️Iconic Groups & Ensembles🤩🎶The 1970s featured several massive global bands that dominated international charts with defining rock, pop, and disco hits.
~~ Queen: A global phenomenon blending stadium rock with operatic theatricality, achieving massive success in Europe, South America, and Japan. Formed in 1970, the theatrical rock icons conquered global charts with anthems like "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "We Are the Champions".
~~ The Eagles: The American country-rock group released an unstoppable stream of chart-toppers, anchored by hits like "Hotel California" and Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975).
~~ Pink Floyd: Conceptual rock giants whose 1973 masterpiece The Dark Side of the Moon remained on the billboard charts for a record-breaking 741 weeks. Known for psychedelic and progressive masterpieces, they achieved enormous worldwide fame.
~~ Fleetwood Mac became one of the most popular global bands of the 1970s by pairing rich vocal harmonies with the personal heartbreak of its members. Their 1977 masterpiece Rumours sold over 40 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums in history. Emotional turmoil fueled massive chart hits like "Dreams," "Go Your Own Way," and "Don't Stop".
~~ ABBA: Swedish pop pioneers who became one of the best-selling acts in history, dominating charts across Europe, Australia, and the Americas. The Swedish pop sensation took over the world after winning the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, delivering ubiquitous smashes like "Dancing Queen".
~~ Bee Gees: Sparked a worldwide cultural movement with the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, achieving unprecedented consecutive #1 global singles. The sibling trio became a global disco phenomenon in the late 1970s, driving the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack with hits like "Stayin' Alive".

🎶🎸💃🕺The 1970s was a defining decade where 1970s fashion and music fused together, turning global bands and artists into international style icons.
Freddie Mercury unabashedly wore tight satin catsuits, pleated capes, and a bare chest.
The Bee Gees & Abba defined mid-to-late '70s Euro-disco style with matching shiny satin jumpsuits, rhinestones, and high platform boots.
Stevie Nicks introduced a signature ethereal bohemian look with flowing chiffon, lace shawls, top hats, and velvet.
The Eagles rocked the American classic denim country look with jeans and a relaxed cowboy aesthetic.
Overall there was a pervasive decadent rock-and-roll look with long-haired men in unbuttoned silk shirts with huge collars, velvet flared trousers, fur coats, and leather jackets.
