πΊπΈ NEW IN THE STORE FOR THIS WEEKEND AND THIS ONE IS OLDER THAN AMERICA! πΊπΈ
Before there were dollars issued by the United States⦠there was Colonial Currency.
New in at Americana Coins & Currency is this Pennsylvania Two-Thirds Dollar note, dated February 17, 1776...This was issued nearly five months BEFORE the signing of the Declaration of Independence!
Printed in Philadelphia by Hall & Sellers, the firm produced paper currency for Pennsylvania and would also print currency for the Continental Congress during the Revolutionary era.
π°οΈ Think about what was happening when this note was issuedβ¦
George Washington was commanding the Continental Army.
The Revolutionary War was already underway.
The Declaration of Independence had not yet been signed.
And the United States of America technically didn't even exist yet.
Nearly 250 years later, this little piece of paper has survived to tell the story.
Pieces like this are one of our favorite parts of collecting because sometimes you're not just holding old money.
You're holding American history. πΊπΈ
β¨ Now available at Americana Coins & Currency!
Come see us this weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday!
