Happy American Business Women’s Day!

You know the only way we can properly celebrate is by mentioning some pretty incredible women who built successful businesses as madams. Women like Polly Adler, Pauline Tabor, and Josie Arlington (all pictured below) weren’t dealt a fair hand, but each of them, though hard work, shrewd business sense, and some good old fashioned feminine charm, were able to not only survive, but to achieve remarkable business success!

No, famous outlaw Bell Starr’s daughter Pearl did not work at Miss Laura’s, but she was a madam in Fort Smith in her own right! She did have a connection to Laura, though. Laura was a madam before she built the house our museum is in today, and Pearl ended up as the madam of the brothel Laura left when she began building the Miss Laura’s that’s still standing today!
