I’m taking a moment today to remember where I was.
I was only a few days at my 2nd duty station, Camp Lejeune. My Sergeant, whom I had never met, called from his Leave to let us know he wouldn’t make it back on time. He was in NY when the towers came down. I was the one who answered his call.
Not an long after that call, we were evacuated from our building and they did inspections of the base. Once we were given the all clear, they sent us to the barracks to wait for word. My roommates and I watched with eyes glued to the TV, while news reports replayed the tragedy throughout the day.
I will never forget that day, the sadness, fear, and weight of it all.
If you would like to share your memory I would love to hear. ❤️ The world changed that day. Let us share the memories in honor of those who are no longer here to share.
