A few of my Brimfield finds! 💙

I’m totally laughing looking at what I bought. Remember when we first opened Avenue C and it was ALL farmhouse? White and gray, galvanized metal, chippy wood… all the things. 🤍

I still appreciate those pieces, but these days I’m drawn to things with a little more personality ~ character, charm, history, interesting details and… COLOR!

And apparently, the quirkier the better. Funny how your style changes, isn’t it?

NOW THIS is a statement piece. ⚖️🖤

This incredible vintage Toledo Scale came to me years ago from my old friend Kelly at Shamrock Vintage ~ and it’s been a fixture on the counter at Avenue C ever since.

Dating to approximately the late 1930s–early 1940s, it was built by the Toledo Scale Company in Toledo, Ohio. These commercial scales were made for hardworking general stores, groceries and produce markets. Their famous promise?

“No Springs ~ Honest Weight.”

And this beauty has survived remarkably intact ~ original body, indicator assembly, scoop, balance arm, hanging weight pans and identification plate. Even the old Toledo service tag from Providence, Rhode Island remains, giving us a little glimpse into its working life here in New England.

Industrial. Sculptural. A little Art Deco. And SO COOL. 🖤

LABORING over this post… and then I decided to just throw my pics on here. Here you go ~ SUMMER FUN! ☀️

Not in any particular order… just some things I loved. Time with family & friends, great meals, morning walks, Jackson, NH, Story Land with the grands, waterfalls, boat rides, a little shop hopping from New Hampshire to Plymouth, MA… and plenty of good summer memories in between. 🩵

YOU GUYS! Oh my gosh… what an emotional weekend.

So many of our regular customers stopped by ~ with laughs, encouragement, memories, tears, a few swears 😂 and hugs all around.

We were even joking that I may need to establish “visiting hours” down at Bernat Antiques so we can all stay in touch! 😂

Our favorite card customer came in this weekend and did what she does best… bought cards. LOTS of cards!

This lovely local lady is a serious card sender ~ often leaving with upwards of $150 worth at a time. I’m always amazed, and she always gets a good laugh when I tell her. 😂

And this weekend I learned something new… Halloween is her FAVORITE! 🎃👻 Of course it is. She stocked up accordingly!

We had some laughs, a little reminiscing, and yes, a hug goodbye ~ although I’m hoping it’s more of a “see you at Bernat’s!” 🩵

It’s customers like this who have made nearly 10 years behind the Blue Doors so much FUN.
