Recent Refurbishing job I did for a client. It was the Papaw’s guitar they Inherited. It had definitively seen better days. In short, it was completely unplayable, broken, multiple cracks completely through top & back, multiple bad body separations, poorly glued neck separation, lots of “gorilla glue” used in poorly repaired places including the neck joint, broken nut, broken pick guard, badly bent tuning shaft, and the finish was flaking off.
I managed to strip the guitar, properly repair all cracks with underside maple braces and splinted in splines for missing wood, removed/reset the neck, repaired all body separations, made a new nut, made a new pick guard, refinished the sunburst stain and hand painted the white bindings (original binding was painted ).
All and all…. I think it turned out pretty well and is back to playability again. At the very least, this family heirloom will live to see a few more generations now. 👍🏻
