Manitou Fire - Capped off an amazing (23+ hour) workday watching the aurora borealis flicker like flames emanating from the Manitou Islands while lighting up the Big Dipper, Empire Bluff, Lake Michigan the beautiful twists and turns of Otter Creek. Adding to the awe were the beautiful calls of a Common Loon out in Lake Michigan and salmon splashing their way by me and my tripods as they made their way upstream to spawn.

If you’ve been considering purchasing artwork from Focus Gallery, now is the time to act! Across-the-board price increases are coming, effective May 12, 2025.

With dramatic changes in the economy affecting materials and shipping prices in recent months, the time has come for us to make some price changes on our work. While we have tried to keep pricing steady, with no changes in our current price structure since late 2022, nothing we buy or ship costs what it did three years ago when we last made adjustments.

As of May 12, 2025, we will be implementing a new pricing structure for all of our products. Some products will be affected less than others, but many of the increases will be significant as we navigate the current economic realities we face.

So, that’s the bad news - but now for the good news!

You can still purchase any of our products at our 2023/2024 price structure through May 11, 2025 at midnight EST. So, if you’ve been thinking about pulling the trigger on a great new piece of art for your home or business, or as a gift for the favorite mother(s) in your life, now is the time! Roll back the clock and enjoy 2023/2024 pricing through this weekend!

Meteor and Milky Way - While the much-anticipated geomagnetic storming was a bust this weekend, the cosmos did put on a brilliant show with clear, calm and moonless conditions on Friday night. While photographing a sky full of stars and the Milky Way I even got lucky with a meteor burning through this image, all while being treated to the hoots of at least four Barred Owls and the yipping and joyous singing of two groups of coyotes echoing across a glass-calm Loon Lake...medicine for my soul.

We are approaching our last gallery weekend of the 2024 season with next weekend’s Fall Festival - be sure to join us in Frankfort and celebrate the season!

Day Barn at Daybreak - This morning I ventured out early to be at the top of the Cottonwood Trail on Sleeping Bear by 6:15am in hopes of seeing Comet Tsuchinshan–ATLAS on the eastern horizon, but a low cloud bank to the East stymied that plan. But I sure was glad to be out enjoying an amazing morning - as the sun started rising it lit up the ground fog surrounding the DH Day barn and surrounding landscape and made for an amazing start to the day!

Just a reminder we're open at the gallery on weekends only right now, and only for a couple more weeks until Fall Festival. But as always, we're available online 24/7 and we produce and ship art work year-round! Be well and enjoy the day!

Benzie County Flying Fish

It's that time again - the salmon are running up the Betsie and that means lots of oohs and aahs at the Homestead Dam as Benzie County's flying fish perform their feats of amazing aerial acrobatics on their way upriver. Had fun watching yesterday afternoon with quite a number working their way upstream, including this one who gave me a very splashy photo opp as it cleared the top of the upper falls.

We've got the gallery open weekends this time of year through Fall Festival (second weekend in October) so stop on in and say hello when in Frankfort - or check us out online anytime!

Wow what a night! I hope some of you were able to catch the amazing sky show last night - with peak of the Perseid meteor shower and an all-night show of aurora borealis courtesy of a coronal mass ejection from our sun - an incredible experience, made even more incredible by having my son Liam with me taking photos all night! A special night and great life experience for me :) Here's a few selects from a quick edit for you to enjoy!

Sorry to have been absent on social but life is good - summer is going too fast but we're happy seeing many new and familiar faces in the gallery. We are open most days right now until school starts back up later this month, then switching over to being open most weekends through Fall Festival in October. As always, we are open online 24/7 and happy to produce and ship you some great art any time!

Summer Sunset at Old Baldy - It always sneaks up on us, but the sun is setting on our 9th summer at Focus Gallery!

With school starting back up, we are back to weekends only through Fall Festival in October. We plan on being open most weekends, Saturdays 10-6 and Sundays 10-4. As always, we produce art and ship year-round through our website and can open the gallery by appointment as well - feel free to message us for more information!

Bobcat with kitten! While enjoying dinner with family in Frankfort we were treated to a show of incredible cuteness by a bobcat with her kitten, who ambled up the bluff and across the yard after stopping to play on the split rail fence. Such beautiful creatures!

First Aurora of the Summer (for me, anyways!)

Enjoyed a brief display of the northern lights last night with my son, Liam, at Loon Lake in the Sleeping Bear Dunes NL. For a few minutes there was a break in the cloud of smoke overhead and the aurora lit up quite nicely, until the smoke and rising moon washed it out. What a treat being out and enjoying photographing the night sky with my son!
