I have been asked by parents what ECF Choices is and how to sign up. Well, there is a waiting list in case you have not heard but it is well worth looking into the MAPS Program which could help in bridging the gap until ECF Kicks in. MAPS and other questions can be explored by asking Stella at www.thegearfoundation.org
Parents in Tennessee who are waiting for ECF (Employment and Community First) CHOICES funding can explore the MAPs (Medicaid Alternative Pathways) program as a temporary alternative to receive support for their child with intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD). The MAPs program is specifically designed to help individuals with I/DD develop skills to live independently, find employment, and engage with their communities.
While enrolled in MAPs, participants receive support in areas such as:
Community Navigation: Learning to get around independently using technology.
Independence Coaching: Developing life skills like managing money and personal health.
Employment Innovation: Helping participants find and maintain jobs.
Peer Mentoring: Providing guidance from others with similar experiences.
MAPs is particularly useful for those who have recently graduated or will soon graduate from high school, as it focuses on building independence and employment skills. However, it's important to note that you cannot be enrolled in both MAPs and ECF CHOICES at the same time. MAPs can serve as a valuable bridge while waiting for ECF CHOICES funding to become available(
