Charming 8” tall French bisque statuette of the Virgin Mary, faintly inscribed at the base “N. D. de Lourdes” (Notre Dame/Our Lady), circa 1900, $18.00. Interestingly, her hands have been broken off and reattached. Many years ago, I was told that it was tradition to break the hands off of statues of the Blessed Mother, to remind us that we are put on earth to do her work.
