Happy Labor Day from all of us at The Stables! 🤍

Today, as we pause to reflect on the beauty, purpose, and dignity of hard work, we are so thankful for the wisdom found in these verses:

"In all labor there is profit..."

"Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might..."

"Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God."

To the makers, the builders, the parents, the local business owners, and everyone in our Franklinton community—thank you for the heart and labor you pour into your daily work.

September 2, 1945: The Price of Peace ⚓️

The world was exhausted. Over 400,000 American men and boys—and tens of millions worldwide—had lost their lives over the last four years. From the blood-soaked fields of France and the war-torn coasts of Sicily, to the fortified castles in Germany and the brutal trap-tunnels in the islands of the Pacific, the cost of freedom was staggering.

But finally, the end had come.

For a nation steeped in ancient tradition, a fierce sense of national pride, and an absolute obsession with honor before defeat, the surrender of Japan was astounding - a testament to the complete devastation of their economy and their armed forces. The proud nation of samurai warriors had been brought to its knees.

Unfortunately for the many innocents on the island of Japan, that unrelenting pride was the reasoning behind President Harry S. Truman's agonizing authorization of the atomic bomb. An invasion would have been the bloodiest seaborne attack of all time; nothing else would force the surrender. First Hiroshima, and then Nagasaki fell in August.

And finally, through the rubble, a defeated emperor whispered for peace.

On the morning of September 2, 1945, the shadow of war finally lifted. More than 250 Allied warships sat anchored in Tokyo Bay. Aboard the USS Missouri, under the fluttering flags of the Allied nations, the Instrument of Surrender was officially signed. A brief 20-minute ceremony ended years of unimaginable global carnage.

As General Douglas MacArthur accepted the surrender, the sun dramatically burst through the low-hanging clouds—a literal and figurative light breaking over a ravaged world.

Peace is never free. It was bought and paid for by brave men and women who pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor so that the next generation could live in the light.
