Something new is taking shape—and tomorrow we begin moving in.

Deep Creek Studio is coming to Canal Quarter Arts in Fredericksburg!

No antiques this time—just creative time, beautiful products and a dedicated place to gather, create and learn techniques you can use again and again.

We’ll create with decoupage, decorative finishes, IOD products and more through thoughtfully designed workshops that leave plenty of room to make each piece your own.

I can hardly wait to welcome you into the Studio.

My husband didn’t understand why I admired every detail of this box when all he could see was the hole.

But I love folk art, and I couldn’t stop looking.

I wondered about the person who took such care to create it. Was it a parlor craft of old, worked on slowly for the simple pleasure of making something beautiful?

The artist chose that wonderful blue base color, still visible inside, then covered the exterior with beautifully painted flowers and fruit and delicate gold striping. Time added its own layer—the texture, wear and deep patina that only come as a piece ages. The decoration continues across the front and sides, even into details that might rarely be seen.

Those details matter. So does the care taken when no one is looking.

I collect tole-painted boxes and other special painted pieces. I stack them and fill them with special trinkets and such, so once this one takes its place among the others, the damaged top will hardly matter.

Value is subjective. He saw a damaged box. I saw the hand of its maker—and everything that survived.

You know how sometimes an old photo pops up in your social media feed and stops you for a minute?

This one did. Circa 2011.

It’s part of our history—and part of the old Manor House’s history. Deep Creek at the Manor definitely wasn’t our beginning, but looking at this photo reminded me just how much we’ve worked through over the years.

We’ve changed, moved, adapted, gotten a little disheveled more than once, and certainly stumbled over a few obstacles along the way. But somehow, we’ve always come through. And we’re still going strong. Boy, the stories we have to tell.

I’m saving this one as a reminder of just how far we’ve come.

And as a little Manor House PSA for those who remember it: this was the haunted room to the right at the top of the stairs. And yes, I made that hole in the wall while hunting for secret rooms. 😂 Difficult, but good times.

Believe it or not, this photo was actually an improvement from the first time we saw it. It also taught me that it takes approximately seven coats of paint to cover crayon and marker.

Thank goodness we had help. 😂

I am obsessed with the architectural details on this late 19th-century Eastlake corner étagère! From the spindle gallery to the steeple top, it’s a total statement piece. ✨🪵 it’s getting a thorough cleaning today.

There’s something about autumn being just around the corner that always gets my creative wheels turning.

It’s been a busy and certainly interesting summer, filled with travel, grandteens, creating new spaces and plenty of other things demanding our attention. Somewhere along the way, the business became a bit bottlenecked. Not for lack of ideas or interesting things, but simply for lack of time and space to bring them all to life.

Even though we’re still working hard, I can feel everything beginning to lift.

And there’s quite a bit waiting to come through.

I’ve sourced some great pieces that haven’t made their debut yet, there are a few special projects we’ll finally have time to explore, and I’m thinking about expanding workshops while exploring new spaces and possibilities.

I’m not quite sure where all of it will land yet, but maybe that’s part of what makes this next season interesting.

In the meantime, this little teapot lamp has been patiently waiting for its moment.

The gentleman I bought it from said, “Yeah, my wife likes things like this too.”

And I thought, yeah…of course she does. 😂

Consider this its debut.

There’s plenty more waiting in the wings.
