It is with heavy heart that I post the loss of our little tail-less ambassador, Kiwi. Yesterday she appeared to have a seizure that she did not come out of, followed by another probable one last night. She was the sassiest of our sassy girls and she will be missed. Rest easy my little snapping turtle 😔

Just in time for Halloween, our three little witches (Winnifred, Sarah and Mary) were released! Hopefully they'll get lots of treats (the wild kind) instead of tricks out there on their own. They were released on my property where people and cars will be minimized. Safe travels little ones!

Great information! I also get calls from people who want healthy opossums removed from their property just because they don't like them (gasp). That is not what wildlife rehabbers do...it's illegal for to do that. But...we can help you sort out wildlife-human conflicts.

Recently we have been getting an influx of people reaching out to us to remove “problem” wildlife from their properties. Firstly it is illegal to relocate wildlife. Secondly one of our core missions is coexistence. Wildlife has every right to exist in the places they have called home longer than we ever did. We destroy so much of their habitat and then wonder why they are becoming more prevalent in our lives.

Relocating wildlife does not solve the problem of why they are coming around. If you do not want wildlife in the vicinity of you and your property then you need to make sure you aren’t doing anything to attract them.

Remove all food sources, this includes bird food. If you are attracting more birds and squirrels to your home that will also attract more predators. Do not keep cat and dog food left unattended outside. Wildlife do not have any understanding about the food you put out isn’t for them. They just see easy meals that they don’t have to exert energy to feed themselves.

If an animal is coming around when you believe they shouldn’t be then the best course of action is to haze them. Yell at them, bang pots and pans together to scare them off. Spray water near them with the hose. Get motion detector lights or motion detector sprinklers.

We are not going to come out and pick up an animal you just don’t want in your yard. We are a wildlife REHAB facility. We only take in animals who are orphaned, injured or sick. An animal being out during the day is not a symptom of any illness either. Many animals are opportunistic and will be out during day or night if they have a better chance of getting food.
