Several folks have asked if I’d make zibin for stock. I always say no because years ago I did and they never sold. They sell as custom orders because I can coordinate with kaftan or several kaftan in a collection.

However,
I cut these last year and they got made this year. Reversible. Fabric from Bali. Metal frog closures.

This just arrived addressed to Clark-Vargo Household. No notes. I’m very confused. Anyone here send this?

So a strange but exciting mistake. I was making this gorgeous Persian entari with accurate sleeve in gold/pale blue silk tafetta and took to NOWM to hand stitch while at the event. The garment got wet. Don’t know how but it got wet AND some red from my basket bled on it. For 3 days I stared at it, panicked and desperate as to what to do. There was this wide bold trim on it though and after hours of staring I took the trim and added to the bottom. OMG.

So now, I have a gorgeous BYZANTINE coat! It will have some design element between trim and hem, and I’m exploring pearl buttons w loops. I *could* use hook n eye or lace up hidden closures too. What do ya think?

If I did pearl buttons I could bead the trim in pearls and gold or leave that to the buyer so the garment won’t be as expensive. I have gold placard pieces I can add to it as well. I can make a hat with the trim meeting in the front so the points come together. Again- I can add beads too.

The cut still is a Persian cut, so it can be used for a Persian persona too.

Thoughts on the additions? Closures?

**** I cannot truly show you how lovely this fabric is. It’s a pale blue/grey/green with a gold cross weave. I did wet down the whole coat so there is no visible water damage or anything to indicate there was ever a problem.

Well Pennsic will be interesting.

I’m struggling to get stock complete AND special orders, my kids aren’t coming, husband said he’d be there almost whole time and now is NOT (where my war boyfriends at?!!!! ;)), my service dog is broken, I’ll be hosting all new products for someone else (I’m sure her items will sell like crazy!!!!), and now my weirdo alien kid is letting go of chunks of her eclectic collections to have for sale at the Souq.

Top this off with tariff prices making things difficult to acquire, and this is shaping up to be an unusual sales event!

So, the Souq (marketplace or bazaar in Arabic) will be an oddball mix of curated fabrics, Middle Eastern historically accurate clothing, Turkish towels, Ottoman ceramics, some Persian copper enamel, jewelry from the known world, Turkish coffee, shoes, veils and sashes, tarpus and Taj, scraps of fine fabrics for crafty needs, books, and now high end yardsale of oddities (Only Allah knows what Finn will send me, but we will have some wood blocks, we have a $500 Ajna drum with enamel damage I’ll let go of for basically nuthin, stuffies for kiddos, mugs and feast ware, and more!

I normally don’t offer up such a hodge podge and may do the wild assortment as a midnight madness thing, IDK. I want to support the kiddos though and these are items they have collected to try and earn a few bucks.

I will also bring a couple sewing machines to let go of that I’ll have available to rent during war, and likely some goodies from my travels around the world.

I do have a rather extensive antique doll collection and an entire set of porcelain Storybook Dolls. New in box. They are over 50 years old. Should I bring? They’d be kind of cool for younger folks. My kids have no interest in them.

The last set of saree I ordered. These are the nice ones. The rest are craptastic. The vendor wants to know why I gave a bad review. Well let’s start with the fact they lied and said they were silk.

I can use these and they are quite lovely (esp the red and blue- giving Wonder Woman vibes), even though they are thin. I can line with lawn or batiste and have a super light entari or qaba made from it. They will be gorgeous!

Ok. Here it is. Reversible Seljuk long sleeve. Trimmed in Mongolian design trim from Jadis Silk Road. Fabric is Anatolian tribal design. I will use the blue version to do a short sleeved slightly longer version.

Stay tuned though- I’m going to put together a full description of research and design decisions to go with this. I just haven’t slept yet and have chores and errands to run then guests.

A difficult topic relating to intellectual property. This is NOT aimed at any singular person. However, it is a problem I have faced several times and its happened enough that it was time to address it. Please know this hurts and yet comes from a place of love.

WHY oh WHY do all the gorgeous HISTORICALLY ACCURATE prints have to be printed or woven in POLYESTER OR RAYON?!!!!!

And NO, Rayon is not “technically” natural fiber just because it’s plant cellulose. It’s so heavily chemically treated that is will instantly combust and MELT ONTO YOUR SKIN.

Conversation:

No. Rayon is not silk sir. Never was. Polyester and satin is also not silk so please stop saying it is. When you say a fabric is silk, it means that it comes from a FU***NG WORM. Not wood pulp and not recycled plastic bags.

Sigh.

“But maam, why did you give me bad review maam? Will you take it away and give good review maam? What can I do for you maam to make you give good review maam?”

How about not send me s**t fabric that you BLATANTLY LIED ABOUT IN YOUR AD? How about you send me the fabric you PICTURED IN YOUR AD AND SAID WAS SILK?! How about you STOP USING AI TO MISREPRESENT THE S**T YOU’RE ACTUALLY SELLING?

“Ok maam I cannot do that because ads are permanent and we do sell what we show and maam you are not nice because you have bad review and said we had poor quality and lied about fabric maam.”

You can. You are choosing not to. It’s easy to fix. Take photos of the actual item, then state the actual fiber content. Then if people purchase the item they will leave good reviews. I however, am not changing anything because I am stuck with $287 worth of crap.

It’s actually not crap. It’s usable. But not as primary garment. Not as silk. As lining maybe or very airy shalwar. So I in no way got what I paid for.

Next stock. Men’s cut (long torso) Seljuk. 13thC est. Fabric from Anatolia, traditional pattern. Making it long sleeve with the bands at upper sleeve, around neck, and wrist.

I’ve cut it to 52”C and Waist but with the extra panels it will fit much larger
