I like to throw the rims of my mixing bowls hollow, making them a little extra puffy while leaving them light weight. It also helps direct the liquid you're pouring out of the spout.

First I think out the clay at the rim of the bowl, then carefully roll it over towards the inside of the pot. Once a hollow ring is formed, I gently press the edge into the inside of the bowl, sealing off the ring so water and food can't get in later.
