John's been trying to grow bluebonnets in one particular corner of the farm for three years running. Seed down every fall, next to nothing come spring.

This year he finally tried something different — planted a different flower there instead. And it's a good reminder of how particular bluebonnets really are about their ground. They want full sun and, rocky, well-drained soil. Rich, heavy soil, or a spot that stays a little too moist, can grow plenty of other things well — it's just not bluebonnet country.

We will be out seeding the fields for next spring in a few weeks, and every year the crew learns a little more about which corners of Wildseed want to be bluebonnets and which ones would rather be something else.

Tomorrow's the start of Fall Planting Days — three afternoons only, Friday through Sunday, 2–4pm each day. This is the one time a year founder John R. Thomas walks people through bluebonnet timing, soil prep, and choosing the right native wildflowers in person, and once it's over, it's a year before it comes back around.

No RSVP, no cost, no reason not to swing by. Bring whatever's been going wrong in your garden and ask him directly.

Friday, Sept 4 – Sunday, Sept 6, 2–4pm each day. Wildseed Farms, 100 Legacy Dr., Fredericksburg, TX — farm hours 10am–6pm daily.

We're easing into Labor Day weekend out here with fields full of buds — a few brave blooms scattered in, but mostly that good green anticipation before fall color really gets going.

It's also planting season. In Central Texas, fall is when wildflowers go in the ground for next spring's bloom, and our founder John R. Thomas is marking the occasion with his annual Fall Planting Seminar: Friday, September 4th through Sunday, September 6th, 2–4pm each day. Three afternoons of hands-on advice from someone who's spent close to four decades learning what works in Texas soil.

Come get your seed, ask John your questions, and start your own patch of spring. Free, no reservation needed — just show up.

Four days until Fall Planting Days, and this is the one weekend a year our founder, John R. Thomas, walks people through bluebonnet timing, soil prep, and native wildflower selection in person — the real answers to the questions we hear all year.

Friday, Sept 4 through Sunday, Sept 6, 2–4pm each day. Free admission, no RSVP required. Come to one afternoon or come to all three.

Out on the trails, this year's cosmos and zinnias are getting going — up and filling in, though not blooming yet. If you're after color now, stop by the nursery, where the potted and landscape plants are already blooming and ready for any garden.

Come spend harvest season in America's #3 w**e region.

Texas Hill Country was just named the third-best w**e region in the country by USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards — up from ninth place last year, and we couldn't be prouder to be part of it.

Here's what harvest season looks like at Wildseed: rows heavy with tempranillo and cabernet sauvignon, grapes stomped barefoot the old-fashioned way, a glass of Wildseed w**e poured just steps from where it grew, and our trails winding past vineyard rows as the fields wake up for fall. Hill Country at its most alive.

Over 60 w**eries call this region home. We'd love for you to spend a little of harvest season with us.

Those bluebonnet seeds are getting ready for their turn in October — that's when they go in the ground around here, not now, no matter how tempting the fall displays make it look. In the meantime, the trails are coming alive with this year's cosmos and zinnias, gearing up for their fall bloomer show.

Come walk the trails and see it for yourself, and while you're here, catch founder John R. Thomas hosting Fall Planting Days this Friday through Sunday (Sept 4–6): three afternoons of straight talk on what to plant and when, soil prep, choosing the right native wildflowers, and whatever's been giving your garden trouble.

2–4pm each day, free admission, no RSVP required. Whether you've been gardening for decades or just planted your first bed this year, there's a place for you at the table.

A weekend in Fredericksburg starts to feel complete around fair time. The Gillespie County Fair opens August 27th and runs through the 30th — and it isn’t just any fair. It’s the oldest continuously running county fair in the state of Texas, 138 years strong.

Make a day of it out here first — wander the trails and watch the fields waking up for fall, stomp grapes the old-fashioned way (Saturday, August 29th is our last Grape Stomp of the season), then head into town as the sun goes down for rides, horse races, and the fairgrounds lit up after dark. Hill Country hospitality, morning to midnight.

There's still plenty of August left, and plenty of Saturdays to join us for the Grape Stomp. If you haven't made it out yet, this is your sign — bring the family, stomp a barrel of grapes, and enjoy a glass of w**e.

It's messy, it's a little silly, and it's become one of our most-loved summer traditions here at Wildseed Farms.

If you've walked our trails recently, you may have noticed something: the first green is coming up. Germination is underway across the fields, which means fall color isn't far behind. We're not in bloom yet, but this is one of our favorite stretches of the season — watching the fields wake up a little more each week.

Come out and see it for yourself while it's still early. There's something worth watching here all season long, not just at peak bloom.
