Louis Philippe I was the last king of the French. During the French revolution he fought on the side of the republic, but broke with them over the ex*****on of King Louis XVI. He fled to Switzerland and lived in exile for 21 years. During this time his own father was executed. He became King in 1830 and ruled France until 1848, just 2 years after this 5 Franc coin was struck.
