Good morning everyone and Welcome to another edition of plants and how they adapted to this summers weather.
Begonias have long been a standard in many a garden, thriving in hot sun, adapting to shade, deer resistant, the poster child for what to plant for an easy, low maintenance garden.
This spring caught them off guard, they struggled in the cool early summer weather, coupled with dampness, they were not happy campers.
By mid summer we were very glad to see them returning to there old selves and they have flourished since. We’ve also learned, while deer don’t necessarily eat them, they have begun to pull them out. So as we do with many plantings, we sprinkle the granular liquid fence on them when planting, so that if deer do come by, they leave them alone.
When riding along the shore recently, it was a pleasant surprise to see Mass plantings of Begonias thriving in a sea of homes with Sun Patiens.
Begonias, you gotta love them, but we may change varieties a little next year to see if they can return to there old magic in the garden.
Hope you’re having a Great Day, see you soon.😃

Hi everyone and Welcome to Monday Funday - Old Albert.
I was looking for a picture for another story a time ago and look what I came across. We all know Old Albert as the 1st picture, 2 front tires on a narrow front end, but he wasn’t always like that.
I remember, originally, Old Albert as the 3rd picture. That’s Old Albert on the silage blower with Cousin Bobby driving. Old Albert, named after Albert Boulmeyer, who had owned it previous to joining our Farm, was a potato Farmer. The tractor had a single front tire, which made it easier to navigate down the rows of potatoes when cultivating. More difficult to steer, a disaster if you had a flat tire, I remember driving it down the road, the only speed I knew how, know how? Yah, we’ll stick with knew how,😂😂😂, and the front tire would start sidewall flexing into a bounce, lol.
The 2nd picture shows Old Albert after Dad and I had cleaned it up and repainted it, sometime in the very early’90’s. Still with its single front tire it was towing the #33 as we tried to get it running, which we did that day.
Probably in the early 2000’s Dad wondered why not change Old Albert over to a conventional 2 tire front end, so that was what we did. Old Bunky was sitting “In The Fence Row” , so we did what any Good Farmer would do, we stole the front end off Old Bunky and put it on Old Albert,😂😂😂. Sticking the single under Bunky.
A few years before Dad passed, we did an engine overhaul on Old Albert, led by our very own fearless Uncle Larry. After having to replace a cracked block, I started painting the pieces, but never finished, unfortunately. One day.
Hope you’re all having a Great day, see you soon.😃

Good morning everyone and Welcome to this week’s addition of Patterson Family History- The Patterson Family’s consecutive years of attending The Rough & Tumble Threshermens Reunion continues.
The Day started even earlier than normal, just after 4am, as we weren’t even hooked up or loaded. There were thoughts of not even towing a tractor out this year with everything we’ve been through, but after Sheldon got planned work done on the 8N and Freehold Welding got repairs done to our trailer late Wednesday afternoon, it seemed like it was meant to be. And with that thought we were there.
After picking up Tom, we made our 1st stop at the Shady Maples, Thank You to our very own Adorable Mara❤️ for the Gift Card. Next we had 2 tractor starters we dropped off, just a little out of our way.
Arriving on the grounds, we were all set up and had the tractor signed in by 10am. I’m not sure how it’s possible, but there was definitely more of everything,😂😂😂. More quality vendors in the flee market , more food vendors, more small engines and mowers, and more tractors. There were so many tractors in attendance that were participating in the pulls, that even though the 1st was by 6pm, they fully expected to go till at least 1am, can you imagine? And there’s no messing around there, it’s one after the other.
Through the day, we saw Mark Engle, Uncle Larry, and later, Sheldon making sure the tractor seemed ok after the work he’d done. It’s pretty cool to see all the people stop by and chat about our little tractor, even during a pause in the parade Tom had people walking over to him talking about it.
Tom continued the tradition of being in the parade, which was started by our Dad, his Grandfather many, many years ago. It really gives you a sense of the # of tractors there when you’re part of or viewing the parade.
As the day wears on, the reality of the nearly 2 hour drive home, and all we have to do Friday sets in and we were loaded, and on the road by 7.
Already looking forward to next year, when I’m hoping to see Tom driving Dad’s 1945 Farmall M in the parade for the 1st time.
Hope you’re all having a Great Day, see you soon.😃

Good Morning everyone and Welcome to another edition of Plants Excelling This Summer- Impatients.
Really, Yes. Remember a time when Impatiens were so popular in shade, that people started putting them in hot sun? Just keep them well watered, they would say , and they do Great.
This was, of course, before the newer varieties of Vinca came along. At the time, Vinca was just a promise that never seemed to do what was promised, boy has that changed, lol.
Then Impatiens started to get hit by bugs, and then a terrible disease that never even would let them get established.
But newer varieties were introduced, time passed, the last few years I’ve been in the fence, somewhat disappointed.
But check them out this year, They are Gorgeous! Is this long term? I’m not sure, but they may be worth experimenting with in your shady garden again. After all, we’ve tried everything and it’s Brother to replace them there,😂😂😂.
Hope you’re having a Great day, see you soon.😃

Hi everyone and Welcome to Monday Funday- Charles W. Patterson.
This past Friday night, our Great, Great Grandfather, Charles W. Patterson was Honored & Remembered for his services at the Sandy Hook Light House by the National Light House Museum during their “Where Light Meets Liberty Gala”. The event was held in Staton Island.
Sharon, our Sister Cindy Ann, her husband Bill, and the kids -Tom, Brenna, and Kaylin were honored to represent the Family and accept the honors and awards.
As you may remember, as the Civil War broke out, Charles, along with his 4 Brothers volunteered to serve in the war, however, Charles was rejected due to his varicose veins. After writing a letter to Secretary of War Edwin Stanton, he was chosen to run the lighthouse. A position he would hold from 1861-1872.
They had a Wonderful evening, which included a short acceptance speech by the Girls. They also met the Harbor Master from the New York Harbor who knew about the John C Patterson- a Coast Guard Cutter named in Memory of our Great, Great Uncle.
Both men are buried in the Ardena Baptist Church Cemetery across the street .
We LOVE our Family History. Thank You so much for following along. Hope you’re all having a Great Day, see you soon.😃

Good Morning everyone,
I’d thought it’d be nice to Spotlight some plants that have really done well despite all the extremes in weather we’ve seen this Spring/Summer.
The 1st is going to be Euphorbia, Diamond Frost, a very underused filler, that loves part to full sun. It works well in containers, baskets, and really I don’t see any reason it wouldn’t work in a bed too, although I feel it’s better as an accent. But, how could you go wrong with that Basket that just has that.
The Beauty of this plant- We’ve never had to trim, deadhead, or cut it back, and all the while it’s shows flexibility with watering. Even when combined with verbena, scaveola, geraniums, it seems to fill in the gaps, providing color while the others are recovering.
Definitely something to try if you like to experiment.
Hope you’re having a Great Day, see you soon.😃

Hi everyone and Welcome to this week in Patterson Family History- The Reality of August.
We Love Summer, the beach, ocean, races, warm temperatures, but as Dad always said, once we got to July 5th, Fall was not that far off. Maybe a bit of an exaggeration, lol, but once we get to August, it starts to become a reality.
August is definitely a month we try to make the most of , after all , we’re finally starting to catch up on our summer work. But when Dad had his Bus and before that Buses, August was a hectic month of preparation.
As back to school shopping was beginning, Dad’s summer maintenance on the Buses was in high gear. All done at night, of course, after a long day of work on the Farm. Most of the work he did himself, with his little helpers , 😂😂😂. Brakes, tires, tune ups, you name it.
All needed to be done in time for the annual Bus inspection, and most inevitably, being failed for something.
Dad had learned, much better to fail for something obvious, a small repair, rather than something big and time consuming. So he did his Best to cover everything.
Once everything was ready, and believe it or not, waxed, painted, and cleaned, Dad would pick up all of us “Neighborhood “ kids, so the little ones had the experience of getting on a Bus, before the 1st day of School.
Dad Loved his Buses, each had special memories, and that is why his last Bus - JJ, will always be on the Farm.
Hope you’re all having a Great night and a Great Summer, see you soon.😃
