We camembert the thought of you missing out on this rare gem...too much? Yeah we thought so but couldn't help it! We are drooling over this Camembert aged by the legendary French affineur, Rodolphe Le Meunier. I honestly think I'm having it for breakfast as I type this post!

Like almost all great cheeses, this one reveals its true magic when brought fully to room temperature before serving. When I tasted this wheel, the very first note to hit my palate was pure, luscious sweet butter. Honestly, it is so good on its own that I didn't even want to put a drop of honey or a speck of jam near it—you just want to sit back, close your eyes, and savor the flavor completely unadorned.

Unlike a mild Brie, a true traditional Camembert is packed with rustic personality. As that sweet butter melts away, it gives way to deep, complex nuances of earthy mushrooms, damp autumn woods, and savory warm milk. What makes Rodolphe’s version so exceptional is his meticulous aging process in his Loire Valley caves. He takes this traditional craft and elevates it to an art form, nurturing the rinds until the wheel achieves a perfect, velvety balance where no single flavor overpowers the other.

This wheel is practically begging to be unwrapped around a backyard fire pit with a cool Whidbey breeze blowing through the trees. Pour yourself a glass of crisp, dry regional cider, slice off a wedge, and let it melt in your mouth.

We only have a handful of these special wheels in the shop right now, so come grab one in before they're gone!

FalI is trying to sneak in today but I am savoring every last bit of summer goodness with this plate of fresh Stracciatella, sweet homegrown tomatoes, basil, and a perfect loaf from Hummingbird Bakery.

Let's talk about the true star of that plate—our Stracciatella from Liuzzi Cheese. It is, quite simply, the bomb. If you haven't had the pleasure of tasting it yet, Stracciatella is essentially the decadent, gooey center of a ball of burrata! To make it, they take fresh, hand-pulled mozzarella curds and shred them into delicate ribbons, gently folding them into rich, sweet cream. Liuzzi is a fifth-generation, family-owned creamery based in Connecticut with deep roots in Puglia, Italy. They craft their cheese using time-honored methods and fresh, locally sourced milk.

So, what do you do with Stracciatella besides just eating it straight out of the tub with a spoon? (No judgment here, we do it too!) We absolutely love it dolloped over a plate of fresh tomatoes or roasted stone fruit like peaches. It is also incredible spooned generously over a mortadella pizza right as it comes out of the oven, or tucked into a crusty mortadella sandwich. And if you are making a warm bowl of pasta tonight, top it with a scoop of this rich cheese to add an instant, restaurant-quality "wow" factor to your dinner.

We promise you will not regret taking some home! To give you the perfect vessel for dipping, we will have fresh sourdough from Sea Wolf Bakers arriving in the shop on Wednesday, and as always, beautiful fresh loaves from Hummingbird Bakery landing on Friday. Stop by the shop to grab your Stracciatella and hold onto those summer flavors just a little bit longer!

Sea Wolf Bakery pre-orders due by Saturday!

We are incredibly lucky to have a wonderful, talented baking community right here on Whidbey. But occasionally, there is a specific culinary experience from the city that we just have to share with you—and save you a ferry ride in the process! That’s why we make a special off-island run to bring back loaves from Seattle's Sea Wolf Bakers.

Founded in 2014 by brothers Kit and Jesse Schumann, Sea Wolf has earned wide acclaim for their handcrafted pastries and rustic sourdoughs made from locally sourced Pacific Northwest grains. Their dedication to the craft earned them a nod as James Beard Award Semifinalists, and Tasting Table recently named them one of the Top 20 Bakeries in the Entire US for sourdough!

Their naturally leavened loaves are fermented slowly to develop an airy crumb, incredible depth of flavor, and that deep, blistered crust that makes your kitchen smell like absolute heaven. Whether you’re planning to bake a wheel of Harbison for dipping or just a thick smear of rich French butter, having a fresh Sea Wolf loaf on hand is a special treat.

Our next run is scheduled for Tuesday, September 15th, with fresh loaves landing in the shop bright and early on Wednesday, September 16th.

Pre-orders are open right now on our website. Be sure to secure your loaves early—all orders must be in by Saturday, September 12th before our order locks in!

If you love artisan cheese, you must know Jasper Hill Farm in Greensboro, Vermont. They are true pioneers of the modern American artisan cheese movement! Not only do they craft world-champion wheels from their own dairy herd, but they also built massive underground affinage (aging) caves to support and age cheeses from small surrounding farms. It is a true labor of love that elevates their entire local dairy community.

We have two of their creamy cheeses in that are perfect for Fall.

Willoughby - A washed-rind cow’s milk cheese with an aromatic, rosy, slightly tacky rind that gives way to a gooey interior. When you taste it, you will pick up complex, savory notes of roasted onions, cultured butter, and fresh dough, balanced by just a hint of bright tropical fruit. Our favorite way to serve this delicious little stinker is drizzled with a touch of hot honey. In the glass, it pairs beautifully with a malty amber ale or a dry, funky farmhouse cider to cut right through that buttery richness.

Mini Harbison - This bloomy-rind wheel is wrapped in spruce cambium—the inner bark layer harvested straight from the woodlands right on the Jasper Hill property. That bark acts as a belt to hold the creamy cheese together and lends a vibrant, rustic, woodsy note to the spoon-soft interior, beautifully balancing its sweet cream and subtle mustard flavors. For the ultimate cozy appetizer, simply cut the top rind off, set the wheel near a campfire or in a warm oven until it is gooey and bubbly, and dip your favorite crusty bread directly inside.

Landing soon...Moses Reaper. It's Moses Sleeper turned Reaper in orange for your Halloween plans. 🎃

As summer wanes, our cheese cravings universally shift to one thing: pure, spreadable, velvety decadence. We went completely overboard bringing in some of our favorite creamy wheels!

As pictured, Rodolphe Le Meunier Bûche de Fontenay. This was a special pre-order for us to bring all the way from France! It is a mini bloomy-rind goat log from the Loire Valley that is luscious and creamy right under the rind, giving way to a beautifully dense, fudgy center.

If you aren't familiar with Rodolphe Le Meunier, he is a legendary French affineur (cheese ager) who holds the prestigious title of Meilleur Ouvrier de France—the absolute highest honor for a craftsman in his country. He partners with small farmstead cheesemakers, taking their fresh wheels into his own temperature-controlled cellars to age them to absolute perfection. When you see his gold seal on a cheese, you are tasting a true masterpiece.

Here are just a few of the other creamy beauties we have in the store to help you build the ultimate decadent board:

FireFly Farms Merry Goat Round is a milky, gently tangy American bloomy-rind with clean grassy undertones. The Soignon Bûche de Chèvre is a pillowy French classic that will be absolutely divine paired with Whidbey Preservation Society's new toasted sugar fig jam!

RLM Grand Crémeux des Cîteaux is another special pre-order! Crafted originally by Burgundy monks, this is savory, spreadable velvet. Langres is a washed-rind classic—try pouring a splash of Champagne right into its sunken center! For triple-creams, Delin Crémeux de Bourgogne is the gold standard of whipped-butter richness, while our beloved staple Le Délice de Bourgogne delivers salty, ultra-rich perfection. Finally, the Moser Screamer is an Alpine triple-cream so buttery it will make you shout out loud.

Rocky Mountain Sky is a stunning artisan Idaho sheep’s milk beauty that is rich, nutty, and wonderfully smooth.

Stop by the shop this week to get your hands on these incredible wheels before they disappear!

Happy Labor Day! Just a quick reminder that we are CLOSED today & tomorrow to celebrate the holiday. I want to take a moment to give a massive shout-out to our small but mighty team. If you’ve visited the shop, you likely know these amazing ladies and just how fabulous they are. They are true foodies who absolutely love swapping stories with you about their favorites in the case.

If you are checking out with Lyndy, she is going to make sure you don't leave without French Salted Butter and a wedge of the creamy, decadent Grand Noir. She does our laundry and reaches out to each of behind the scenes, remembering birthdays and anniversaries. This lady has HEART!

Rosie—who you might know makes incredible cakes and the occasional batch of marshmallows on the side—is our resident dinner-ingredient matchmaker. If we have the herbaceous Fleur du Maquis or her absolute favorite Shakerag Blue in the shop, she is definitely sending you home with it. She has become my right hand and I don't know what I'd do without her!

Chloe will happily talk you through every single cheese on your custom board, share exactly what she had for her own cheese-centric snack the night before, and make absolutely certain you grab a container of our gelato on your way out the door. When you see her, don't forget to ask her where she is traveling to next! She is a travel agent and always has an amazing trip planned (and the best stories to share). We are so lucky to have her in between trips.

As a small business owner and a mom, you end up wearing so many hats. It is entirely because of these ladies that I can actually step away to take family vacations, sit in the audience for school plays, and cheer our kids on at their sporting events. I truly cannot imagine our shop without them.

Thank you to Lyndy, Chloe, and Rosie for keeping the shop running so beautifully. Enjoy your Monday, savor the last bits of summer, and since we are always closed on Tuesdays for our weekly supply runs, we will see you back in the shop on Wednesday! 🧀❤️

Gelato Update: We are scooping some absolute beauties right now, including my personal favorite of the season just in time for Apple Cup.

🍎Bourbon Vanilla Apple Crisp - This is exactly how apple crisp should be served IMHO! A rich bourbon vanilla gelato layered with generous hunks of cinnamon-spiced apples and buttery oat crisp. It’s my absolute favorite right now and tastes like a perfect September afternoon. Did we mention it's Apple Cup? Go Cougs!

🍓NY Strawberry Cheesecake - Rich cheesecake gelato swirled with a vibrant ribbon of tart Fragolissima Arabeschi—a sweet, aromatic sauce packed with whole strawberries.

☕Italian Espresso - The perfect afternoon pick-me-up. This captures the true essence of a freshly pulled shot, striking that flawless balance between sweet and delightfully bitter.

On Deck: Old World Spumoni and Roasted Banana Dulce de Leche.

Grab a single scoop, double scoop, or a 12 oz to-go container to stash in your freezer for a late-night treat. 🍦🍂

🍺 Prost! Oktoberfest is right around the corner, and Brian has been hard at work filling our shelves with rich, malty, and crisp traditional brews to help you celebrate.

Reuben’s Brews Festbier - Brewed right over in Seattle, it is less malty and much more drinkable than a traditional Märzen, mirroring the exact style served in Munich's tents today. You will taste a smooth, clean, and beautifully bready flavor that practically begs for a warm, soft pretzel or a wedge of nutty Alpine cheese like Challerhocker.

Black Raven Flocktoberfest - This Woodinville brewery has crafted a gorgeous German-style Märzen that is your smooth ride from summer to fall. Built on traditional Czech malted barley for a deep, toasty malt character, it is hit with a tight blend of European and domestic hops. It is clean, balanced, and boldly classic. Those deep, toasted malt notes make it an absolute dream paired with a smoked Gouda or a hearty slice of artisan summer sausage from our case.

Terramar Haus Festbier - Straight from our neighbors up in Bow, Washington, this crisp and highly drinkable pale lager is a local favorite. It shines with bready, malty notes of honey and graham cracker, all perfectly balanced with delicate floral and herbal hops. It is a lighter, refreshing take that pairs beautifully with an aged clothbound cheddar or a picnic spread of fresh baguette and prosciutto.

Erdinger Oktoberfest - Brewed according to the strict Bavarian Purity Law, Erdinger expertly combines smooth malt aromas with a pronounced hop bitterness, lifted by a gently sparkling carbonation typical of a genuine German wheat beer. Full-bodied and irresistible, this wheat-style festbier sings when paired with a creamy washed-rind cheese or a savory pork pâté.

Oberdorfer Festbier - Famously crafted with pure alpine spring water. Pouring a deep golden color with a generous foam head, this bottom-fermented brew delivers gorgeous caramel notes and a very subtle hop bitterness. To really bring out that caramel sweetness, pair it with a crystalline, aged Gouda for a match made in Oktoberfest heaven.

Stop in this week to build your ultimate Oktoberfest mixed pack.

All of our(and yours) favorite sheep cheeses are back in the shop! Let's shine a spotlight on Hidden Falls from Shepherd's Way Farms out of Minnesota. This bloomy rind beauty is a delightful combination of butter, cream, and citrus. Pair this with fresh summer fruit and a bottle of bubbly. 🥂🍓

I know, I know.... we get new cheeses ALL THE TIME. What can I say, we're really excited for this one and just had to share.

Langres is a French, washed-rind cow's milk cheese originating from the Langres Plateau in the Champagne region, known for its vibrant orange rind, creamy texture, and tangy, earthy flavor with a distinctive concave top called a "fontaine". This dimple is traditionally filled with Champagne or Marc de Champagne, which is poured in before serving to enhance its richness and aroma, making it a popular celebratory cheese.
