What’s our favorite cement mix for sculpting? 👀

Portland cement, 20-mesh Silver Sand, and TruPac X. Mixed to the right consistency, it gives our artists a material that grabs onto the mesh, builds up nicely, and can be shaped with a trowel once it starts to set.

In this shop demo, we’re breaking down the mix, the ratios, and the application process our team uses to create highly detailed sculpted environments.

Our latest build is a larger-than-life boombox created in partnership with Elevue for the upcoming movie Forgotten Island.

Our team brought this oversized throwback to life, and now it’s out in the wild for everyone to see.

Monster City Studios is proud to be part owner of , a brand-new family destination opening soon in Paso Robles, CA! 🎃

We’ve been busy building all sorts of fun stuff for the ranch, including these APPLE CANNONS. 🍎💥 James took them for a test run, and they’re just as fun as they look.

We get this question all the time: “What do I need to learn to work at Monster City Studios?”

Welding? Carpentry? Sculpting? Scenic painting? CAD?

Those skills matter, but as James explains, it’s about more than checking the right boxes.

The work we do crosses a lot of disciplines, and every project brings a new challenge. Having a strong foundation is important, but so is being curious, adaptable, and good at figuring things out.

Learn how to make things. Learn how things work. And get really good at solving problems.
