I am incredibly grateful to know someone with as much energy, compassion, and grace as Kelly. From the moment I met her, I knew Kelly was dedicated, serious, forthright, and above all, capable. She moves in the world with an understanding of how to manage every situation with judicious and fair leadership which I think will bring transparency to how our city operates, especially in the cloudy world of finances.
Kelly knows how to manage crisis and calm with so much balance and because of that, I know she was built for more responsibility and leadership.
Very early into our friendship, she asked me to catsit for her.
I blew it. I lost her cat. Purely on accident. I accidentally scared it out a window with a sudden, weird sound of me knocking something over. He disappeared because I was new and smells were new and he was nervous.
Not only was Kelly incredibly understanding and unnecessarily kind during an incredibly high stress situation, she gave me the tools I needed and the confidence to get her cat back. I can't tell you how much hell that was, not knowing if I had lost someone's little baby. She listened to me and perfectly communicated instructions for how to try and locate the cat's microchip, but that didn't end up being how we found him.
We found the cat the next day through her thoughtful guidance and through the fact that this community is amazing. Eventually, and with enough work, a neighbor just said, "Hey, is this your cat?'
She offered me compassion and understanding despite everything. And that is how I know her ability to lead and that her character is unimpeachable. She could have been furious at me. I was furious at me. She showed me a grace that is wiser than her years.
Please give Kelly Mears your consideration when you vote in your next election. She has much experience and is thoughtful in her leadership, and I can attest to it whether she is organizing a q***r prom, a welcoming community event, or even a personal crisis.
