Many exciting events happening this Saturday, October 24th!

🎃Welcome to our Patch (10am-1pm): Join us in the Children's Garden for a sensory scavenger hunt and decorate a pumpkin ornament!
🎃Pumpkin Bouquets (10am-1pm): Join us at the Flower Field for DIY mini dried flower bouquet making and pumpkin pots! $5 per person at the Main Entrance and FREE for Arboretum members.
🎃Spooky Still Life (10am-2pm): Join us near the Children's Garden for charcoal still life drawings inspired by our fruit trees!

Looking to add something new to your garden? Our annual Native Plant Sale is coming November 6th–8th!

Whether you’re a longtime gardener or just getting started, there’s plenty to discover at the Arboretum’s Native Plant Sale.

Explore a variety of drought-tolerant California native plants that thrive in local gardens. The sale runs for three days, with different hours each day, so be sure to check the flyer and plan your visit!

Happy TreeTober! Meet one of our favorite trees, the royal poinciana (Delonix regia, planted 1988)

Bearing wispy, fern-like leaves and sizeable clusters of bold red-orange flowers, Delonix regia is a handsome ornamental tree. Although it is endangered in the wild, due to the fragmentation and habitat loss of Madagascar’s dry forests, it’s cultivated widely throughout urban tropics for it’s vibrant canopy.

We have a couple of royal poinciana trees, however the one pictured can be found at the top of our south lawn.

Happy TreeTober! Meet today's tree the saucer magnolia (Magnolia x soulangeana, planted March 1979)

This tree is a cross between Magnolia denudata and Magnolia liliiflora, Magnolia x soulangiana emerges in early spring with large pink, white, and purple “saucers” before leafing out. Easily cultivated, it has been further developed into over a hundred recognized cultivars including ‘Rustica Rubra’, ‘Alba Superba’, and ‘Alexandrina’

Our saucer magnolia can be found at our front entrance next to our waterfall bridge.

For sale today: dried flowers, fuyu persimmons, lúcuma, white sapote, key limes, and ice cream beans! Quantities of some items are limited.

Flowers are $11 (tax included.) Fruit is $5/bag or cup. Fruit is harvested Thursday mornings and becomes available around noon. Fruit is available for subsequent days at our front gate, 9am to 3:30pm, or until sold out.

Happy TreeTober! Meet today's tree the incense cedar (Calocedrus decurrens, planted 2025)

This tree is native to the western US as well as parts of Mexico. Its foliage produces an incense-like odor, and the wood is resistant to rot.

You can find the incense cedar in our conifer collection, across from our stream and the beginning of the bamboo forest.
