Yellow Bird Comics is excited to be part of Putt-Putt Fore a Purpose!

Teams will be making their way through Downtown Fuquay-Varina for a day of mini golf, with local businesses hosting holes along the way—and we’ll have a hole set up right here inside Yellow Bird Comics! 🐥⛳️📚

This week’s pick is Crowbound issue one from Jeff Lemire(Jeff Lemire) and Dustin Nguyen (dustin nguyen) and Image Comics (Image Comics)

The team behind Descender, Ascender, and Little Monsters is back together, and they’ve thrown us into a strange, broken world dominated by the Factory, where our protagonist, Rose, finds her daughter is taken “before her time”. Rose sets out to bring her daughter home and what follows is part post-apocalyptic western, part Southern Gothic, part dark fantasy—and all kinds of weird.

Lemire gives the book a strong emotional core right out of the gate, but Dustin Nguyen’s watercolor artwork absolutely makes this world. It’s dark, dirty, dreamlike and gorgeous.

Weird. Haunting. Beautiful. A stunning first issue.

This week’s Pull List Pick Thursday is a twofer! There were two new first issues this week that were just too good to choose between: Hammerfist 1 and Black Tower: The Raven Conspiracy 1.

Hammerfist, from Rick Remender (), Steve Epting(), and Matt Hollingsworth() is a gritty crime story that takes a sharp turn into the supernatural. It’s dark, strange, beautifully drawn, and has one heck of a hook.

On the other side, Black Tower: The Raven Conspiracy reunites Ram V() and Mike Perkins (and brings along Mike Spicer on colors) for an occult espionage story from the newly returned DC Vertigo. Secret intelligence agencies, paranormal threats, magic, conspiracies! This one checked a whole lot of boxes for Rob.

Two completely different books, but both were fantastic first issues that left us ready for 2.

So this week, why choose? Grab both!

This week Rob’s Pull List Pick is a wonderfully weird and beautiful story of a self-exiled space rogue who’s trying to make it across a hand shaped planet with a family of his own choosing to return to his actual family!

Faceless and the Family Vol 2: The Maze of the Mechanical Aliens from Matt Lesniewski (Matt Lesniewski) and Oni Press (Oni Press) has been one of Rob’s most highly anticipated limited series for 2026. With wonderfully rich and complex hand drawn panels and deeply personal story telling, this is one you don’t want to miss.
