Flashback Friday 🎸
On this day in 1990, Alice in Chains released Facelift, an album that helped pull Seattle’s dark, heavy sound into the mainstream.
 
It didn’t happen overnight. Facelift sold fewer than 40,000 copies in its first six months—until MTV put “Man in the Box” into regular rotation. Suddenly, audiences outside Seattle were paying attention. The album climbed to No. 42 on the Billboard 200 and became the first grunge album certified gold, helping pave the way for the explosion of Seattle rock that followed.
 
Rather than chase the spotlight, Alice in Chains kept doing what got them there: touring relentlessly and building their audience. That slow burn eventually turned Facelift into a triple-platinum album and established the band as one of the defining voices of the grunge era.
