🎣 SUNDAY FISHING REPORT — THE RIVER RATS HAVE SPOKEN! 🐀🌊

Good morning, River Rats! ☀️

Before you start making excuses about why you can’t go fishing today… we checked the river. 😂

📍 JAMES RIVER — GALENA, MO
The river was sitting around 3.78–3.79 ft late this week, with flows around 124–126 cfs — so we’re looking at a low, clear-ish, skinny-water kind of situation.

🎣 THE FISH REPORT:
The latest Galena-area report says the fish were making folks WORK for it. Bass, walleye, bluegill and catfish are still on the menu, but bright, calm conditions made for a tough bite in deeper water. Moving into shaded water improved things.

Translation:

The fish are there.
They know you’re coming.
They have apparently hired attorneys. 😂

🎯 Today’s River Rat strategy:
Try those shady spots, work your bait a little slower, and don’t be afraid to change things up when the fish decide they’re on their Sunday schedule.

And remember…

You don’t need a fancy boat.
You don’t need $400 worth of tackle.
You just need a little bait, a little patience, and the willingness to blame the fish when you don’t catch anything. 🤣

🚨 ATTENTION RIVER RATS: THE JAMES RIVER HAS FISH. WE REPEAT… THE FISH ARE STILL THERE. 🎣😂

And apparently Mother Nature has decided that September is just July wearing a fake mustache. 🥸☀️

🌊 JAMES RIVER @ GALENA:
Sitting around 3.8 ft / 124 cfs and running low.

Translation for the non-River-Rat crowd:
The river isn’t exactly raging.
You’re not going to need a search-and-rescue team to cross the current.
And you might actually see the rocks you normally cuss at when you hit them with your lower unit. 🤣

🎣 THE FISH REPORT:
The smallmouth are still apparently accepting applications.

🔥 EARLY MORNING: Throw some topwater and make the bass think breakfast has arrived.

☀️ WHEN THE SUN GETS RUDE: Switch to finesse plastics, crayfish-style baits and work those rocks, holes, current breaks and shady spots.

🪨 GOGGLE-EYE & ROCK BASS: Go poking around rocky structure and deeper pockets.

Basically…

IF IT LOOKS LIKE A FISHY PLACE, THROW SOMETHING AT IT.
That’s pretty much professional advice around here. 😂

🌡️ WEEKEND WEATHER:
Saturday: Hot, humid, with a chance Mother Nature throws a thunderstorm tantrum.

Sunday: HOTTER. Because apparently 90-something degrees wasn’t sufficiently offensive.

So our highly scientific River Rat recommendation is:

🌅 Get out EARLY.
🎣 Catch fish BEFORE the sun starts cooking you.
💦 DRINK WATER.
⛈️ Keep an eye on those storms.
🥵 And don’t wait until you’re medium-well to head home.

🥶 BUNDLE UP, RIVER RATS! 🥶

Mother Nature has officially dialed down the thermostat and we don’t want any of you catching pneumonia 😂

🌊 JAMES RIVER — GALENA, MO
The Galena gauge is sitting around 3.8 feet and 130 CFS. That’s a pretty low, clear-looking James right now, so expect those fish to be hanging around their favorite structure and deeper pockets.

🐟 FISHING REPORT
The smallmouth are still the main attraction! MDC says the James should continue to offer excellent smallmouth fishing in 2026. Look around logs, boulder piles and deeper current breaks with live crayfish, finesse rigs and artificial lures. And if you’re willing to brave the early morning or evening chill, topwater can still be a whole lot of fun.

🌧️ TODAY’S WEATHER
Cooler, cloudy and damp with showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Definitely one of those “pack the rain gear” kind of days.

So if you head to the river, dress for the weather, watch those changing conditions and keep your eyes on the sky.

🚨 WE MAY HAVE ACCIDENTALLY OPENED THE BAIT SHOP. 😂🎣

We came up here today for ONE thing…

Meet a supply truck.
That’s it.
In and out. Back home. Done.

Then the phone rings…

“Can you meet me for some bait?”

Well… obviously we said COME ON! 😂

Then another River Rat showed up.
Then another.
Then another…

And before we knew it, WE WERE HAVING A TUESDAY. 🐀😂

ONE LAST LITTLE “THANK YOU” BEFORE WE CALL IT A WEEKEND. ❤️🌊

As we wrap up Labor Day weekend, we just want to take a minute to say THANK YOU.

Thank you to everyone who stopped in, swung by, grabbed some bait, told us a fish story, shared your floating shenanigans, or just stood around the counter shooting the breeze.

To all our old friends and all the new friends we made this summer — y’all made it one heck of a good one. ❤️

We’re a little sad, just like you, that summer is winding down… but here’s the good news:

You don’t have to wait until next summer. 😉

If you get a weekend to slip away, come on back. We’ll be right here, waiting to hear what kind of trouble you got into on the River this time. 🎣🛶

And a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who chose to spend your dollars with our local shops, outfitters, cabins, restaurants and small businesses.
